Position Title: Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professional Programs School/Division: Office of the Provost (division) Office: Office of the Provost Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time Description: The Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professional Programs reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs playing a critical role in establishing and building strategic, analytical, and operational leadership to ensure excellence in graduate and professional education. As Hofstra University grows into a dynamic and impactful R2 university, the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professional Programs will be a visible advocate for the growth, quality and distinctive impact of graduate programs and graduate education. With over 175 graduate programs, Hofstra offers an impressive array of professional and research-focused offerings in health, business, education, STEM , law, and more. The Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Professional Programs fosters collaborative and productive relationships with the academic deans, graduate program directors, Graduate Admissions, faculty, graduate students, and external constituents. The successful candidate will be an experienced faculty member who has prior administrative experience and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The successful candidate, with appropriate credentials, may be eligible for a tenured faculty position at Hofstra University. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Leads and visibly advocates for the growth, quality, and impact of graduate education. Ensures alignment of graduate education with the University's strategic priorities. Serves as a campus leader for the design and implementation of best practices in graduate education and graduate student success. Strengthens the ties between graduate education and scholarly research, including externally funded programs to support excellence. Partners with campus stakeholders to build a strong and inclusive sense of graduate education community and culture. Provides guidance and recommendations for allocation of graduate program resources, including enrollment management strategies, program marketing, and student scholarships. Oversees and develops the plans, policies, practices, and procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations of graduate education. Develops methods and practices to gather data, analyze, and report on graduate program assessment and scholarly research productivity of faculty and students. Provides preparation, training, mentorship, and support to graduate program directors. Serves as a member of the Provost's Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Provost and other senior administrators to support institutional responsibilities and priorities. Serves as Provost liaison to the Faculty Senate Graduate Academic Affairs Committee. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications: A terminal degree in the field of study, e.g. PhD is required. Experience as a tenured faculty member, preferably at the rank of professor. Demonstrated experience with and significant accomplishments in graduate studies. A demonstrated ability to work in and support a diverse and inclusive community. A record of scholarly research accomplishments working with graduate students. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to establish excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, including Vice Provosts, Deans' offices, graduate program directors, and other relevant University administrative offices. Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute discretion. Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and prioritize tasks.
