General Summary: The Coordinator of Athletics & Student Engagement will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Middlesex Community College Athletic & Sport programs, the management of the Fitness Center, and the advertisement and promotion of the MCC Sport Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and direct the athletic program to include all planning: scheduling; implementation of all events; budgeting; hiring/supervision of coaches; strategic planning and monitoring of the sports and athletic programs.
- Coordinates all college recreational, intramural, and intercollegiate athletics (i.e. - promotes athletic programs and participation; coordinates scheduling of athletic activities and use of athletic facilities; develops long-term facility planning; recommends/implements policies and procedures; develops/administers budget and monitors expenditures; approves departmental purchases).
- Provides athletics information and counseling to students, athletes, fans, and the public (i.e. - provides information on recreation and use of facilities to individuals/groups within the community; publishes schedules, programs, athletic news, and press releases; recruits staff, athletes, and fans; provides athletic, academic, and career counseling to students; tracks academic progress of athletes; assists Admissions Office in evaluation of students and personnel; provides athletic training/instruction and sports coaching as needed; develops game strategies).
- Maintain relationship with UMass Lowell's Campus Recreational Center and Facilities.
- Coordinate activities and wellness schedule with the MCC Wellness Center, such as the Movement campaign and other collegewide initiatives.
- Oversees inventory control, care, and maintenance of athletic equipment (i.e. - operates various sports equipment and paraphernalia associated with athletic programs; ensures cleaning and ongoing maintenance of athletic equipment and uniforms; coordinates maintenance of athletic facilities and equipment to ensure safety and proper operations; monitors inventory of athletic uniforms and equipment).
- Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities (i.e. - submits eligibility rosters to regional/national conferences; prepares purchase requests, facility requests, budget requests, press releases, eligibility rosters, program documentation, statistical data, reports, forms, and general correspondence; receives or refers to student profiles, master schedules, statistical team reports, time sheets, purchase requisitions, budget documents, rule books, handbooks, manuals, and reference materials; operates a computer and utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, or other software programs).
- Manages timelines, scheduling, equipment inventory, contingencies, travel arrangements, etc.
- Responsible for athletic scholarship awarding, maintaining insurance information and conducting an annual athlete orientation.
- Ensure compliance with and adherence to NJCAA rules, college policies related to athletics.
- Maintains information regarding the academic performance of the athletes and develops and manages strategies for academic success.
- Act as a liaison between faculty and student athletes communicating effectively on issues, opportunities, problems, and questions related to MCC athletics.
- Participates in planning/development and renovation activities relating to department activities; coordinates athletic program activities; coordinates game machine operations.
- Supervise fitness center.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of special events.
- Maintain inventory of equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in Physical Education or closely related field; with five (5) years experience and/or training that includes sports education, athletic program administration, and athletic/academic counseling; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous experience in sports and recreation programs or facilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate effectively with students.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Strong computer and social media skills, including knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work some non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Fitness Management, Exercise Physiology, or a closely related field.
- Previous experience in a fitness facility, a sports department (athlete, manager), communications, journalism, or sports management.
- Previous experience with developing web-based content.
- Personal interest in sports and sport teams.
- Familiarity with current trends and practices within the recreational sports profession.
- Ability to work creatively and autonomously.
- Bilingual Skills a plus

Salary Range: $74,383 is the starting salary for a Grade 6 position with a Master's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience. Employees of Middlesex Community College are considered employees of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and receive benefits, which include:

Location: Bedford campus with required travel to the Lowell Campus and other off-campus locations for assignments.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. Occasional nights and weekends are required. This is a one-year appointment for academic year.
