The Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies at Brown University seeks applications for the position of Visiting Professor of Portuguese and/or Lusophone African Literature and Cultural Studies (open rank). The Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The successful candidate will teach one course during the spring semester of 2026. Candidates should have their Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment, documented experience teaching courses in Portuguese and/or Lusophone African literary and/or cultural studies, and a record of academic publications in one or more of these areas. Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese and English is required. Specific questions should be addressed to the chair of the search committee at leila_lehnen@brown.edu. Please submit a cover letter detailing your qualifications for the position including your experience or ideas for teaching in a diverse and inclusive setting, along with the following materials: a CV, a sample publication of no more than twenty pages, a sample syllabus, and three confidential letters of recommendation. Candidates will be evaluated according to teaching and research excellence.
