Position Specific Description

NextEra Analytics is seeking an experienced software engineer to join our New Product Engineering team. The engineer in this role will interact with all business units in NextEra Analytics and will work in all phases of the software development life cycle, including requirements gathering and refinement, system design, implementation, and testing. Qualified candidates will spend most of their time developing software that helps NEA provide innovative forecasting and optimization solutions for the energy industry using a technical stack that aligns best with the problem they are trying to solve. Engineers at this level may be asked to help validate that research can be turned into a viable product. The candidate should also possess the ability to lead small project teams and mentor less-experienced team members, as well as effectively communicate project status and blockers to higher leadership.

  • A desire to work with some of the latest and up-and-coming technologies is preferred. Ideal candidates are those that are not afraid to explore new technologies, and who will vocalize their learnings in the event the product or feature calls for it. In our team, engineers have the freedom to create the best solutions possible with the latest technologies available. They work in a fast-paced environment, solving some of the most challenging problems within the energy industry alongside a team of data scientists and a dedicated research science team.   • Works with other NextEra Energy teams and customers to develop and deliver industry-leading technology solutions to complex challenges
  • Codes in multiple languages in support and development of software products, most recently Python and Vue.js
  • Conducts system testing and creates unit tests for new and existing features
  • Writes documentation for technical requirements and system architecture
  • Participates in agile ceremonies with the product team, including refining product requirements, providing estimates on work, daily standups, and post-sprint reviews and retrospectives
  • Collaborates on high level software design projects and software system architecture and creates effective component level architectures
  • Leads software module construction from architecture and design to implementation and may lead a small team of engineers in building the module
  • Takes abstract concepts and ideas and leads proof-of-concept implementations to help show viability for new product ideas
  • Mentors junior engineers to ensure the team succeeds together
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience being the software leader of a small team of engineers
  • Leadership in system design and architecture of software systems
  • Excellent communication with technical and product colleagues
  • Ability to accurately estimate scope of work and express concerns and blockers of overall project work
  • One or more years of recent Python and/or Vue/Angular/React experience
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing, primarily AWS
  • Expertise in CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code processes


Job Overview

This position writes and tests software to aid in development and support of products. Individuals in this role work with Technical Leads on software system architecture and service design and typically leads a module in the system. This position participates in required product development process ceremonies. Employees in this role are responsible for writing and refining technical requirements and technical design documentation.

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience

The estimated base pay for this position is $122,400.00to $183,600.00per year. Starting pay will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, experience, qualifications, job-related and industry knowledge and skills and education/training.
