Job Description:
Summary
The Facilities Planning and Management department at Iowa State University is seeking to hire an Interior Designer III .
Example of Duties
- provide professional interior design and project management services for small- to medium-sized facilities projects, up to $250,000. In addition, this position may be responsible for interior design services on medium- to large-sized capital projects, up to $1,000,000, in coordination with external design professionals.
- work on up to 30-40 projects simultaneously. Projects assigned are single office and office suite redesigns, classroom renovations, and laboratory remodels.
- advise and consult with university clients, professional consultants, and contractors.
- prepare project cost estimates, drawings, and specifications to communicate and provide instruction.
- provide general project support during all phases of design and construction.
- may coordinate the work of other interior design staff and student employees for assigned projects.
- assist in developing, updating, documenting, and enforcing university interior design standards.
This position is expected to handle tasks with moderate supervision, autonomy and ingenuity. The ability to document projects and communicate design detail to peers, clients and trade craft personnel is vital. Knowledge of commercial and system furniture: detailing, sequence of construction, installation methods, specifying, budgeting, and creating furniture parts order forms with CET and SPEC furniture software.Must have tact and good negotiation skills to maintain positive client and workplace relations.Must have strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects.

Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISUs mission and department or work unit goals
Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude
Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action
Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices
Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff
May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)
May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist
Provides guidance to students
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
