Responsibilities

Reporting to the Technology Strategy Officer (TSO), the Assistant Director manages daily financial operations and serve as a trusted liaison to Human Resources for personnel matters.

  • Strategic Contribution: Innovate and enhance IT, financial, and human resource strategies to optimize the use of IT Division resources for both long-term, annual, and ongoing planning.
  • Budget Collaboration: Partner with the TSO, CIO, IT Leadership, central Finance, and other key stakeholders to prepare and submit annual IT Division budgets using IT and university budgeting and planning tools and processes. Partner with the Assistant Director of IT Governance and Brand Management to align financial planning with project portfolio and strategy.
  • Compliance and Adherence: Ensure compliance with university and Chancellor Office procedures and timelines in carrying out IT financial transactions and other fiscal activities.
  • Financial Tools Proficiency: Master the financial tools needed to support planning, budgeting, modeling, and variance analysis. Conduct data analysis and generate reports and dashboards to inform ongoing financial decision-making and support strategic course corrections throughout each fiscal year.
  • Fund Management: Oversee the receipt, allocation, spending, and reconciliation of all IT funds, including the State General Fund, student fees, and other budgetary sources. Monitor overall IT spending, maintain effective contract management processes and seek opportunities to leverage CSUN and CSU buying power to realize efficiencies in IT spend.
  • Professional Development: Coordinate division-wide efforts to establish annual professional development plans for all staff and guiding the IT leadership team in its efforts to identify areas of needed skills and competencies.
  • HR Liaison: Act as the Division's liaison to Human Resources for all personnel, faculty fellow, contractor, and student worker matters. Provide direct support to IT Leadership in preparing employee training / development and advancement plans, re-classifications, promotions, performance evaluations, grievances, disciplinary actions, and adapting changes to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Employee Engagement and Retention: Serve as an intentional mentor to direct reports and other team members, while more broadly driving a general discipline throughout IT of ongoing employee engagement and mentorship as core to learning, growing, and retaining top talent.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development: Oversee recruitment and hiring for IT and recommend strategic investments in employee development and training.
  • Committee Participation: Represent IT in financial, procurement, human resources, and administrative committees and advisory groups to ensure IT's interests are advocated and addressed.
  • Administrative Support: Supervise the administrative assistant team within the Division of IT to greet and support visitors, support IT leadership, and perform other administrative duties as needed.
  • Strategic Advising: Advise the TSO and VP of IT on the strategic use of IT division space, adoption of university administrative services, and serve as a liaison to other university administrative service providers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required and Master's degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least three years of progressively increasing professional responsibility in fiscal management with at least two years of experience supervising personnel.
  • Higher education information technology experience is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to work independently, analyze operational problems, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret University policies, effectively interact with all levels of staff, and handle situations and information of a sensitive and confidential nature.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of vendors & service providers.
  • Ability to effectively present financial information; prepare budget projections and respond to questions from peers on the IT Leadership team and other University administrative leaders.
  • Knowledge of higher education or public sector regulatory policies, fiscal practices, and culture is desirable as is experience working in or closely with technology organizations.
  • Lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
  • Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
  • Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $100,000 - $110,000 per year, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
