Safety Inspector - Military Veterans

The incumbent is responsible for oversight of all company and subcontracted work activitiesto ensure work is completed safely and that the work environment meets all safety standards for all employees. Unsafe situations are identified and immediately corrected to meet acceptable standards.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Safety/Environmental Manager and/or applicable manager; Operations or Program Manager, in day-to-day on-site environmental/safety regulatory compliance administration.
- Performs safety audits in accordance to outlined processes, files timely reports, and maintains organized file system in both soft and hard copies.
- Investigates employee accidents, completes all reports timely, forwards to the appropriate entities, and ensures any needed corrective actions are identified and completed.
- Supports injured employees receive appropriate occupational health assistance, completes all company forms, and stays informed of employees’ work status. Makes necessary recommendations and keeps those effected informed.
- Develops job safety analyses (JSA’s) for standard work processes, supports restricted duty work assignments, and claims management.
- Contributes to reviewing, tracking, and maintaining of companies' personnel environmental/safety training requirements, updates, and maintenance of up-to-date records.
- Performs risk assessments in the workplace including shops and offices.
- Maintains up-to-date records on employees requiring annual physicals for exposures, CDLs, respirator fit records, Hepatitis B vaccines, and others identified requirements.
- Performs safety surveys (e.g., noise surveys, air monitoring, time and motion studies) to support personal protective equipment policies.
- Aids and supports Safety/Environmental Manager as the day-to-day representative at the workplace. Reports all findings and stays within accepted protocol and standard operating procedures.
- Responsible for contract and regulatory compliance as required per contract agreements.
- Completes regularly outlined general facility inspections and environmental compliance monitoring. Maintains all relevant records in an organized and retrievable system.
- Supports government Environmental Permit actions in Air, Water, and disposal of hazardous waste by following accepted guidelines and standards of operation.
- Assists with government Air Quality compliance tasks including monitoring, emissions, and hazardous pollutants and communicates findings to site management as needed.
- Reviews and assists the Safety/Environmental Manager in updating Plans (air, waste stream management (hazardous, non-regulated, universal, and non-hazardous), hazardous material, water quality, environmental training, stormwater, environmental compliance assessment and program management).
- Performs environmental compliance inspections, surveys, and assessments for Lead Paint and Asbestos, Waste Management, and all other related functions and makes recommendations based on well-known or researched data that is within the scope of the work.
- Supports daily the oversight of Initial Accumulation Point (IAP) & waste stream collection centers.
- Inspects subcontractors performing work for or on behalf of the company at project location.
- Coordinates with subcontractor functional managers and supervisors to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of all tasks are completed safely and within accepted standards.
- Reports to the Safety/Environmental Manager on all tasks, results of surveys, inspections, and observations relating to the performance of work for the company and subcontractor personnel.
- Ensures scheduled and random sampling inspections are properly performed and documented within assigned time constraints.
- Follows Government and company furnished information directives, standard operating procedures, etc.
- Conducts Airfield Driving Training, including classroom and actual airfield driving for the company. Maintains records of airfield driving and classroom sessions.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must have an active high School diploma or equivalency.
- Must have a current state driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of valid insurance.
- Must have the ability to acquire and maintain all required certifications and government CAC card.
- Must have basic computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Must have a minimum of two years’ experience in safety/environmental program management.
- Familiar with Government contracting terminology and requirements.
- Must have experience in safety/environmental regulations and requirements necessary to perform the contractual obligations at this project.
- Must have experience in accident investigation and reporting principles and practices.
- Must be skilled in hazardous waste management.
- Must be familiar with military safety regulations.
- Must have experience with environmental compliance assessments and program management.
- Must have experience in facility and equipment maintenance.
- Must have basic experience with conducting training and or public speaking.
- Must have basic knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulations.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in safety related field is preferred, not required
- Experience using personal computers and Microsoft Office software, including Excel.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written forms.
- Ability to think clearly and decisively in emergency situations and lead others to perform under extreme conditions.
- Superior analytical ability and mature judgment.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, pipefitting, painting, and general construction activities.
Good administrative skills.
