Specialist Position- Susa Lab Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry University of California, San Francisco The Susa lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at UCSF and is seeking applicants for a research technician position using structural biology, membrane protein biochemistry, cell biology, and protein engineering to understand fundamental mechanisms of transmembrane signaling within the human immune system. Our work focuses on B cells, one of the major components of the adaptive immune system, that generate neutralizing antibodies to foreign agents. Projects include: 1) developing new tools to identify and characterize novel regulators of early B cell signaling, 2) structurally characterizing B cell receptor and co-receptor complexes to elucidate how the strength of B cell signaling is regulated, and 3) engineering cell- state-specific, modulatory antibodies that selectively target certain B cell subsets. The successful applicant will work closely with Dr. Susa and other lab members to learn the necessary skills and techniques and then work independently and together with other members of the lab. This position is ideal for a candidate with a background in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, immunology, or a related field interested in gaining research experience at the interface of multiple disciplines in an academic setting. We are seeking candidates who can provide at least a 1-year commitment, with a preference for candidates who can stay for at least two years.
