The Project Scientist in the laboratories of Dr. Thomas Kremen will perform independent research to study soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries and healing. This individual will also be responsible for helping to supervise undergraduate and pre-doctoral student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals. This position requires a Ph.D., M.D. with significant (e.g. several years) research experience in molecular biology, stem cell biology or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience with cell culture and common molecular biology techniques. Animal surgery, histology, and tissue engineering experience are desirable, but not required. The Project Scientist position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step and salary will be commensurate with experience. The assigned project is focused on characterizing the biology of healing soft tissue musculoskeletal injuries (e.g. tendon and cartilage injury repair). This will include investigating novel therapeutic approaches to enhance tissue regeneration in the setting of soft tissue-to-bone repair as well as post-traumatic osteoarthritis following intra-articular injury. This position will include collaboration with distinguished scientists including Karen Lyons, PhD here at UCLA and Shyni Varghese, PhD from Duke University.

Specific Responsibilities include: study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript preparation and some assistance with grant submissions.
