We are seeking a passionate and experienced Mechanical Engineering Technical Supervisor to support our Engineering Division's cutting-edge scientific programs. In this hands-on role, you will be at the forefront of exciting engineering projects, utilizing your expertise in fabrication, assembly, installation, and manufacturing operations.

- Drive Success: Direct activities, equipment, and staff assignments to meet project funding and schedule objectives, ensuring we deliver the highest quality results.
- Champion Quality and Safety: Uphold LBL's quality, technical, environmental, and safety standards, ensuring a safe and compliant workplace.
- Be a Technical Resource: Provide mechanical and technical guidance to scientists and engineers on design, materials, manufacturing techniques, assembly, installation, and testing.
- Transform Ideas into Action: Translate project objectives into clear technical work instructions and assignments for your team.
- Manage Projects Effectively: Provide accurate estimates for cost, staffing, and schedules, while efficiently managing resources to meet project goals.
- Empower Your Team: Train staff on equipment and procedures, ensuring technical continuity and safety training for all team members.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work alongside diverse teams across all LBL scientific divisions on exciting engineering projects.
- Oversee Precision Work: Supervise precision mechanical assembly and Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) assembly processes.
- Engage with Leadership: Actively participate in the Mechanical Engineering Department's management team, contributing to strategic decision-making.
- Communicate Effectively: Provide clear and concise oral and written reports on project status to stakeholders at all levels.
What is Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a technical environment, with a strong understanding of both union and non-union dynamics.
- Proven experience in the installation and commissioning of precision scientific, mechanical, hydraulic, vacuum, and electrical systems.
- Advanced knowledge in key areas, including:
- Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) systems (RGA's, vacuum pumping, bakeout techniques)
- Cryogenic systems
- Electromagnet handling and construction
- Welding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes
- 3D CAD design and drafting, with the ability to create detailed engineering drawings
- Project management skills to effectively control scope, cost, and schedule
- Familiarity with metrology, inspection, quality control, and manufacturing test methods.
- Experience with material handling equipment and techniques.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices in machine shop and research laboratory environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with researchers, engineers, designers, and machinists, providing exceptional customer service.
- Ability to lead and safely direct small teams of technical personnel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a knack for clear documentation.
Salary:
The expected salary for this position is $116,000.00 - $142,000.00, which fits into the full salary of $103,560.00 - $174,756.00 annually depending upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
Notes:

- Onsite interviews and Lab tours will be conducted February 3rd - February 14th.
- This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.
