The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a premier educational institution that prides itself on academic excellence, research, and community engagement and is actively seeking Social Media Specialist in the LAS Dean's Office to join our team! UCCS offers a diverse and inclusive learning environment that fosters innovation, growth, and the holistic development of its students. The work location for this position is in-person. Based on the semester-to-semester needs of the department, as determined by the supervisor, candidates may be asked to teach online, if applicable. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Salary/Pay Range : $50,000. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for supporting the strategic planning, execution and management of social media efforts in the College of Letters Arts and Sciences. The role includes day-to-day management of institutional social accounts, organizing and producing digital content including written, audio, video and photographic content specific to target audiences.
Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Social Media:
  • Develop long-term and short-term strategic plans and goals for institutional social media in support of the university brand, reputation management and mission.
  • Create and manage social media posting calendar based on short-term and long-term strategies.
  • Reputation management as the official voice of UCCS on social media. Carry out message development and distribution that supports the brand, mission and values of UCCS.
  • Promote the university internally and externally through social media.
  • Coordinate campus social media efforts. Be an advocate for social media. Work with others in the university community to maximize its potential. Develop and conduct social media training efforts for faculty and staff members responsible for social media sites, emphasizing best practices. Builds relationships with other department social media managers and guides appropriate responses and support high-priority institutional accounts.
  • Contribute to internal communications, media relations, issues management and crisis communications.

Administration
  • Daily management of the university's social media sites including, but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Provide recommendations for new opportunities as they arise.
  • Stay informed about campus information and events, support high-priority special events.
  • Provide copy writing, photography/videography and communications support.
  • Produce and/or coordinate strong visuals, including video, still photography and graphics including user generated content.
  • Customer service support, with timely, accurate, helpful responses to inquiries and complaints. Respond to criticism of university policies and procedures, respond to inquiries in a timely manner and alert the Office of Institutional Equity and/or UCCS Police about threats in accordance with all applicable federal and state laws and university policies.
  • Manage and advocate for the use of the UCCS Events Calendar, including daily approvals of submitted events held for moderation and outreach to campus users about best practices.
  • Contribute to internal communications, media relations, issues management and crisis communications.

Measurement & Benchmarks
  • Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring the impact of social media programs; analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results. Develop KPI dashboard and regularly report on insights gained from social media monitoring.
  • Collect positive and negative feedback and share with associated campus entities when necessary.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • To be qualified applicants must have experience in social media management for a business or organization.
  • A portfolio will be required for on campus interviews.
  • Highly qualified applicants will have experience in social media management in a higher education setting is preferred.
  • Experience managing higher education social media accounts is preferred.
  • Experience leveraging and measuring social networking sites, tools, plugins, video & photo sharing sites, web analytics.
  • Experience in design and photography--composition, balance, use of font and graphics, white space, color, etc.
  • Preferred applicants will have creative and technical video production experience.
  • Experience in public media relations, crisis communications and issues management is preferred.

Tentative Search Timeline
