Job Summary: The Department of Political Science at Xavier University of Louisiana invites applicants for a tenure track position in Political Science at the assistant professor level beginning August 2025. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Political Science. The Department of Political Science seeks candidates whose research bridges theory and practice to promote and support student engagement in fields associated with awareness and understanding of global minority political issues. Additionally, the candidate should possess the ability to assist in the teaching of research methods (quantitative and qualitative). The department seeks candidates whose area of concentration is Minority Politics. Interested candidates should demonstrate a commitment to excellence by providing leadership in teaching, research, or service toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment. The department is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion and is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, minimizing barriers, and increasing equity and completion rates between members of different demographic groups. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Primary duties for this position include teaching all areas, and levels, of undergraduate Political Science. A successful candidate will also be expected to actively engage in scholarship activities involving undergraduate students. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester but can be reduced when hours are funded by a grant (6 hours max.). Participation in service activities for the Department, the University, their discipline, and the community is also expected. About the Department The Department of Political Science has 4 faculty members and over 100 students. The Department of Political Science offers all levels of instruction for undergraduates and offers minors, majors, and concentrations. The Department also offers an accelerated Political Science/Pre-Law program. The Department faculty are proud of the quality of instruction, undergraduate research, instrumentation, and the accomplishments of their students. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Political Science or a related field; Strong commitment to teaching a full load of 24 credit hours per academic year; Commitment to developing an active research program within the area of the applicant's expertise; Commitment to academic advising for majors within the department; Write and Speak English proficiently; and Demonstrate commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced training beyond the Ph.D., e.g. Post-doc, industry, etc.; Experience with teaching, as well as a strong publication record in Minority Politics; Commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population; Established track record of meaningful mentorship of undergraduate students; Successful experience teaching to a diverse student body and knowledge of effective strategies (e.g. culturally responsive or inclusive pedagogy, awareness of issues that may affect the success of minoritized students) supporting underrepresented groups; Awareness of pedagogical best practices and ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining knowledge in this area; Commitment to the mission of Xavier University of Louisiana.
