Postdoctoral Research Associate (Microbiology/Phage Biology or Cell Sorting) Job Identification: 17650 Posting Date: Job Schedule: Locations: Degree Level: Job Description: What We Are Looking For The Wright Group in the Departments of Biology and Chemistry & Biochemistry at Baylor University is currently taking applicants for multiple open Postdoctoral Research Associates with focuses in either Phage Biology or Microbial Cell Sorting. The Wright Group is focused on phenotype-driven studies of gut and oral microbiomes. Within this focus, the research group has a strong program in the synthesis and application of chemical probes in complex biological systems, with an emphasis on measuring probe labeling and phenotype-driven cell selection using LC-MS based proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, and cell sorting. Microbiology and/or Phage Biology: In a newly funded project, we are seeking to expand our expertise by identifying exceptionally motivated individuals to develop novel approaches to selectively isolate pathogenic bacteria from microbiomes and evaluate them for phage infection. Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in phage biology or microbiology prior to beginning the assignment. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in bacteriophage, microbial pathogens and/or microbiome science. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments. Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in phage biology will be expected to develop and execute independent research in microbiome studies, focusing on phage biology. Expertise may include performing laboratory research using microbiology and fluorescent assays, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of microbes; a focus on bacteriophage infected microbes is preferred. Cell Sorting: We are also looking to identify exceptionally motivated individuals with a strong background in microbial cell sorting. Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. in microbiology, chemical biology, bioanalytical chemistry, or a related field, prior to beginning their assignment. The candidate must be able to independently design and execute experiments using FACS approaches. Postdoctoral researchers with expertise in cell sorting will be expected to develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies using cell sorting strategies. Including performing laboratory research using microbial cell sorting, with heavy emphasis on selective isolation of cells from microbiomes based on phenotype. Additional skills of interest include experience in one or more of the following areas: cell sorting, application of chemical molecules/tools to biological systems, proteomics, biochemistry, microbiology, protein expression, cell culture, molecular biology, genetics, computational biology, and/or functional assays. The successful candidate will be expected to collaboratively develop novel ideas and methods for applications relevant to internal and externally funded research programs. The successful candidate will contribute to and may lead the preparation of reports, papers, posters, presentations, etc. What You Will Do Candidates in either specialization will be expected to: Develop and execute independent research in phenotype-driven microbiome studies Research may include cell sorting, microbiology, molecular techniques, and proteomics Keep accurate and current records of all results from experiments performed; document methods and processes Present your research in group meetings and at national meetings Provide mentorship to graduate and undergraduate students Participate in the proposal writing and submission process Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission Ability to comply with University policies Maintain regular and punctual attendance What You Can Expect As part of the Baylor family, eligible employees receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous time off, tuition remission, and outstanding automatic retirement contributions.
