Overview
This position is budgeted for $21.95 per hour and is non-negotiable.

This Statement of Work covers the need for graduate student who is motivated and skilled cybersecurity professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of information security principles and practices, as well as hands-on experience in identifying and mitigating cyber threats.

A cybersecurity professional typically has a diverse background that combines education, hands-on experience, and a passion for technology and security. The student will be working on an increasingly digital world, safeguarding our information and systems is paramount. Our commitment to cybersecurity is unwavering; we strive to protect our assets, clients, and stakeholders from evolving threats. By implementing robust security measures, continuous monitoring, and employee training, we ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our data. Our proactive approach not only defends against cyber threats but also fosters trust and resilience in our operations.

Responsibilities
The student contractor shall assist in Cyber Security Engineering:

  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate potential security risks and vulnerabilities within the organization's systems and networks.
  • Incident Response: Develop and implement incident response plans to address security breaches and attacks, including containment, eradication, and recovery procedures.
  • Security Monitoring: Continuously monitor networks and systems for unusual activity or threats using security information and event management (SIEM) tools.
  • Penetration Testing: Conduct simulated attacks on systems to identify weaknesses and recommend improvements to enhance security.
  • Vulnerability Management: Regularly scan for and assess vulnerabilities in software and hardware, and prioritize remediation efforts.
  • Policy Development: Create and enforce security policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Employee Training: Conduct training sessions for staff on cybersecurity awareness, safe practices, and the importance of protecting sensitive information.
  • Access Control: Implement and manage user access controls, ensuring that employees have the necessary permissions while protecting sensitive data.
  • Data Encryption: Apply encryption methods to protect data at rest and in transit, ensuring confidentiality and integrity.


Qualifications
Graduate Student 1: Must have a Bachelor's degree in the required discipline and be enrolled in a Master's degree program. Must be able to accomplish a minimum of 50% of the task without supervision.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Cyber Security and/or Computer Engineering major preferred; relevant majors such as Data Science and Software Engineering be suitable given relevant coursework and/or work experience. One student is needed only.


Required Course Work
  • MCS 500 introduction to Cyber Security Engineering
  • MCS 511 Secure Features in operating systems
  • MIS 522 Information system and security development
  • MGMT 512 Principle oforganization behavioral and leadership


Desired Qualifications
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Security+ are preferred.
  • Experience in cybersecurity roles, including vulnerability assessments, incident response, and security audits.
  • Proficiency in security tools (e.g., firewalls, intrusion detection systems) and knowledge of network protocols and security technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, with the capacity to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and contribute to a culture of security awareness.


Additional Applicant Information
  • This position will require the employee to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Due to the regulations established by the Department of Defense, only US Citizens may qualify
  • This is a student position and is limited to working 20 hours per week
  • This position will remain open until filled
