Department Summary

Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure Services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown.Data Center Services manages data center facilities enabling power delivery to the physical aspects of on-prem data center operations including power, cooling, fire suppression, monitoring of environmental conditions, and physical security of the spaces.
Position Summary

The Supervisor of Data Center Services will lead strategy for the central IT data center and manage IT facilities solutions and support for central IT data centers and hosting facilities. The Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day data center team members, operations and job scheduling and managing data center facilities to ensure that efficient, reliable, and secure service is delivered to campus customers. This role will maintain oversight of data center team members, resolve escalations, and ensure that all relevant incidents are resolved in a timely and efficient manner. This role will also coordinate staff training for OSHA compliance and injury prevention. The Supervisor of Data Center Services will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Three years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, data center services, network operations, cloud services, or a related field. (Required)
  • Extensive applicable experience in information technology, data center, disaster recovery, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field. (Required)
  • Prior experience leading a component of data center related projects and contributing to successful, comprehensive execution. (Required)
  • Experience with problem research and resolution for issues related to a complex data center facility and colocation. (Required)
  • Advanced experience in data center management, including experience with server and storage hardware, virtualization technologies, and networking equipment. (Required)
  • Advanced experience and understanding of UPS systems, HVAC systems, and other physical infrastructure associated with temperature control and power systems. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Five or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, data center services, network operations, cloud services. (Preferred)
  • Two or more years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of safety policies, practices, and procedures pertaining to data center operations. (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge of ITIL and other industry best practices for data center management. Proven ability to triage and escalate to supervisors and/or other teams for resolution. (Required)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to small teams. Demonstrated experience presenting technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Demonstrated leadership / management skills, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, mentorship. (Required)
  • Advanced project management skills and is able to delegate responsibility, track project progress, supervise individuals, and advise on competing priorities. (Required)
  • Experience solving technical and non-technical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate. Able to supervise data gathering efforts seeking information from diverse sources. understanding of how decisions affect teams. ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required)
  • Thinks creatively and advises team on industry-leading practices, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Can manage teams in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or a related field. (Required)
