Job Description
This position performs routine public safety duties in accordance with established guidelines including: patrolling assigned areas to ensure personal, building, parking, and equipment security, warning violators of Code of Conduct and reporting any rule infractions, enforcing traffic and parking violations, providing initial emergency response, completing required recordkeeping and reporting duties as needed/required. This person shall act as a point of contact during their work hours for either of the respectively assigned campuses
This position is primarily located at Dakota County Technical College (Rosemount, MN). Based upon departmental priorities, this position may also provide support at Inver Hills Community College (Inver Grove Heights, MN).
Examples of Job Duties :
- Patrol campus facilities and grounds for security, emergency and safety incidents. Ensuring issues are responded to in a courteous and professional manner, resolved promptly, or escalated to the proper resource, and the safety and security of the campus community is maintained. Respond to medical emergencies, mental health emergencies, and service requests by the campus community, answer questions, and provide direction.
- Provide ongoing education in applying campus and Minnesota State security, safety, and emergency policies and procedures; e.g. drug, alcohol, traffic, parking, special events, safe work practices, applicable college policies, and city ordinances, and state and federal laws to ensure the public safety of the campus community.
- Perform recordkeeping and reporting of safety and security incidents, safety equipment and property inspections and maintenance. Ensuring that equipment is operating properly and incident details/data are accurately captured/recorded in a timely manner.
- Conduct interviews with victims, witnesses, and others, and to preserve and protect evidence so that incidents can be resolved in a timely manner, or if warranted, an external investigation can be pursued.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer.
- Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor?s degree in above areas may substitute for 2 years of experience.
Preferred Qualification
- Certification or ability to complete certification in; ICS 100, ICS 200, and ICS 700 Incident Command Courses, Emergency Medical Responder, Mental Health Response within 12 months of hire.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience with Genesis Camera system, Alertus, report writing.
- Knowledge of applicable city ordinances, State of Minnesota, and federal criminal and civil law.
- Knowledge of traffic control procedures and parking regulations.
- Knowledge of standard police practices including rules of evidence, investigation techniques and procedures, citizen?s arrest power, loss prevention techniques, intrusion alarms, surveillance system and fire alarms.
- Good written and oral communications skills for interviewing witnesses, victims, suspects, and defusing conflicts and violent situations.
- Ability to resolve problems and make comprehensive decisions quickly and efficiently.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk campus grounds, reach upward, climb ladders, climb stairs, and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
Additional Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
