Assistant, Associate or Full Professor - Food Animal Pathology - Military Veterans

The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide diagnostic pathology support to cases routinely submitted to the UMN VDL, and deliver comprehensive diagnostic case information in a concise and well-organized manner to livestock producers, practicing veterinarians, and other animal health professionals. The successful candidate is expected to develop close relationships with food animal veterinarians (i.e swine, ruminant, poultry) and producers using their skills and ongoing training to maintain and improve the health of their herds. Expected service duties range from assistance with routine disease/health monitoring to in-depth case investigations. The ability to interact, communicate, and collaborate with practicing veterinarians and other stakeholders in animal agriculture is essential. While the emphasis of this position is to primarily support food animal cases, it is expected that the candidate will also serve as a back-up for other services such as avian, wildlife, or companion animal pathology or biopsy services.

The person in this position will be involved in serving the teaching mission of the CVM and may have the opportunity to establish a collaborative applied research program in areas such as virology, infectious disease epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, control and eradication. Teaching may include participating in the DVM curriculum, graduate and residency programs, and educational outreach programs consistent with the expertise and interest of the candidate. The candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and veterinarians.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
DVM or equivalent degree.
At least two years of experience in food animal diagnostics (i.e., bovine and swine primarily).
Experience and ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Board certification or eligibility by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP)
MS or PhD or equivalent degree in Veterinary Pathology, Disease Diagnostics, Veterinary Microbiology, Virology, Population Animal Health, or other related veterinary fields.
Livestock and poultry field investigative experience (e.g. industry, regulatory or academic field experience).
Working knowledge and experience with production animal medicine.
Experience in teaching veterinary students and/or veterinary pathology residents, graduate students and other trainees.
Pathology training and working experience in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Minnesota.
