Harper College Community Education seeks a Part-Time occupational safety instructor to facilitate classes and design curriculum. This role is vital in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, prevent, and respond to workplace hazards while adhering to OSHA standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in technology and the ability to effectively teach adult learners with varying levels of experience using innovative and engaging strategies. Courses are short-term and can be offered multiple times throughout a typical academic semester. This part-time role includes teaching daytime, evening, and weekend classes, either live online and/or in-person at Harper College Main Campus (Palatine) or Harper College Learning and Career Center (Prospect Heights). Whether a class will run depends on enrollment. Engage students in active learning experiences that promote skill development, critical thinking, and practical application. Promote the class through various channels and participate in recruitment activities within your network to broaden the reach of potential learners. Stay informed about emerging technologies, methodologies, and best practices in education to enhance course delivery and student engagement. Prompt responsiveness to emails and communications from the coordinator. Associate's degree or 2 years' experience conducting training as an Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer and/or Workplace Safety Instructor. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or OSHA Certification and/or Board of Safety Certification. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Ability to assess students' understanding through evaluations, and discussions. 3 years' experience working in Occupational Safety or a related field. Proficiency with technology such as WebEx, Zoom, Teams, and/or Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex safety concepts for learners with diverse backgrounds and experience levels. Experience and enthusiasm for working with students from diverse backgrounds and varying academic experience levels. Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of individual learners. Demonstrated good judgment in decision-making and classroom management, ensuring a respectful and effective learning atmosphere.
