Position Responsibilities:
We are on the lookout for an Optimization Expert to join our team in Gothenburg, Sweden. In this role, you will address complex, real-world optimization challenges in the aviation industry, focusing on real-time crew scheduling and disruption management. Our mission is to ensure efficient crew assignments while minimizing operational costs, adhering to stringent regulatory requirements, and dynamically responding to unforeseen disruptions such as delays or crew unavailability. To achieve this, we leverage mathematical techniques such as column generation and mixed-integer programming (MIP). We apply local search or meta heuristics when applicable and expect Machine Learning to play an important role moving forward.
You will work together with a small team of skilled optimizations and software engineering professionals, taking a holistic approach to problem solving, everything from core algorithmic research to meeting customers. As an Optimization Expert, you will be working with mathematical algorithms, contributing to our C++ codebase. Collaboration is at the heart of our work culture, and we embrace pair- and mob-programming as effective strategies for generating high-quality code. We work closely with customers and other development teams to develop solutions and improve user experience.
We prioritize innovation and continuous improvement, guided by our Software Craftsmanship mindset in design and quality assurance. Join us to gain insights, collaborate with customers, and engage in our Optimization Community of Practice (CoP) as we, among other things, advance our AI initiatives.
Basic Qualifications:
As a person, we believe that you
• have a PhD or a master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience within (or close to) the field of Optimization, or the equivalent work experience
• are a problem solver, with an eye for making the complex simple
• are a team player and comfortable with pair and mob programming
• are happy to experiment, fail fast and share your learnings with us
• embrace agile ways-of-working
• are fluent in English (written and spoken)
Preferred Qualifications:
• C++ programmer, who wants to keep growing your programming skills
• Experience working in a Linux environment
• Some Python knowledge
• Knowledge and/or interest in AI
• Experience and/or interest in solving highly complex scheduling problems
• Experience and/or interest in the airline industry
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite 2-3 days a week. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future
Relocation:
This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
