Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
Reporting to the Director of Parking & Transportation, the Transportation Operations Manager oversees the transportation program on the UNCW campus and associated sites. This position manages the contractual partnership with Cape Fear Public Transportation Authority (Wave Transit) currently consisting of (9) shuttles running on and off campus. This position also manages transportation and alternative transportation operations, education, and sustainable initiatives. This includes management of contracted and self-operated shuttles, motor vehicles, bicycles, skateboards, pedestrian, and all other micro-mobility travel throughout the university and satellite campuses, with the long-term goal of reducing the carbon footprint and accommodating alternative forms of transportation. This position assists leadership with new developments in areas such as carpooling, shuttle bus routes, bicycles, bike rack locations, bike-share stations, car-sharing spaces, etc., to support the planning process and assist in the development of short and long term transportation plans.

Responsibilities include developing and managing an entire transportation program, maintaining and assigning vehicles and equipment, conducting research, recommending and implementing new policies and procedures, and organizing and analyzing ridership data. Manages shuttle operations, ensuring equipment and vehicles are maintained and operational. Communicates important information to leadership, customers, and staff. The position requires a high level of trust and competency and the ability to make unsupervised decisions.

Additionally, the position manages a growing team currently comprised of 2+ full-time staff, as well as student workers. The Transportation Manager's team specializes in a range of duties, from operating the Hawk Wheels Bicycle Support office, supporting bike share programs, impounding and donating bicycles, operating a bike rental program, achieving excellence in customer service, accounting, vehicle operation, and events and event planning. The position has responsibility for all related HR functions, including hiring, training, scheduling, direction, and Full Cycle Performance Evaluations for all staff assigned.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Ensuring the proper planning, safety, inspections and maintenance of all University sidewalks and crosswalks. Assisting with events and/or Parking needs; Managing the removal and storage of personally owned bikes; Managing safety education efforts/programs; Overseeing computer and new technology operations; Record keeping to maintain accurate inspection and driving records; Managing student requests for repairs in the Hawk Wheels Bicycle Support office; Managing maintenance/repairs of signage and bicycle racks; Managing the operation of UNCW self-op Shuttles and maintaining the proper CDL licensing to operate them; Managing the accurate and thorough pre-trip inspection protocols and procedures to ensure safety.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
