Responsible for overseeing the day to day functional activities of the assigned custodial shift. Develops cleaning schedules, assigns and supervises work performed by Custodians. Ensures that the College is cleaned in accordance with established cleaning standards. Communicate standards and procedures to staff. Plans, schedules and assigns custodial work including the collection, storage and removal of recycling materials and waste (garbage). Coordinates, directs, and evaluates the performance of the Custodians in assigned areas. Performs daily inspections of facilities in assigned area. Also, inspects project work completed in assigned area. Coordinates, schedules and monitors training in assigned areas. Trains, instructs and offers technical advice to subordinates. Performs manual work to demonstrate techniques or procedures. Recognizes and corrects unsafe working conditions and habits. Monitors and communicates repair needs of assigned areas. Maintains appropriate records as required for all work, work-orders, requisitions, inspections, preventive maintenance equipment and others items as required. Occasionally directs and supervises the setups and takedowns for classes, meetings, seminars, concerts, banquets, athletic events, student activity events, graduation and other College events. Enforces work guidelines and standards. Initiates disciplinary actions. Prepares and conducts annual Employee Performance Evaluations within established guidelines. Ensures the availability of supplies and equipment. Ensures that equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored properly. Investigates and reports all facilities issues, accidents and safety concerns. Completes and processes the appropriate reporting forms electronically and forwards per current safety policies. Interprets College and departmental policy to workers and enforces safety regulations. Maintains attendance records. Establishes or adjusts work to meet production. Initiates measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product; suggests changes in working conditions, departmental procedures and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew. Performs manual work associated with functions supervised in times of emergency or circumstances which require immediate action for completion of work assignments. Performs related duties as assigned. Education: High School or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred Experience: Minimum of 4 years of work experience in housekeeping, custodial services, or facilities management. Demonstrated ability in leading and training a diverse union staff. Ability to work independently, be proactive in problem solving and exhibit excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Strong communication skills in English to include speaking, writing and reading required. Demonstrated ability to operate and teach operation of all custodial machines/devices. Knowledgeable in floor care maintenance-carpet extraction, shampooing, tile and terrazzo floors, stripping and waxing. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Bilingual and knowledge of sign language a plus. Licensing: Valid Illinois Drivers License
