Overview
Position Summary:
This position contributes to food safety quality of the products and food manufacturing environment of the facility. The employee is a Qualified Individual who monitors for compliance; Process Controls (CCPs), Preventative Controls, GMPs, Food Defense, products according to the specification.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:
- Collect samples of ingredients, products and/or packages and monitor and test according to established procedures.
- Monitor processes to assure they are operating consistently.
- Organize samples of ingredients, final products, shelf studies, or customer projects: test according to established procedures.
- Label and maintain samples of ingredients or products for retains or shelf life monitoring.
- Document neatly and precisely all results.
- Organize collected data for management review (charts, graphs, tables, etc.).
- Maintain labs and other work areas and equipment in orderly fashion.
- Communicate inconsistent results or observations to management immediately.
- Be aware of and monitor plant for compliance with GMP’s.
- Inspect and swab equipment and environment; communicate problems to appropriate technical services or operations personnel.
- Test R & D samples for Food Safety & specification compliance.
- Recommend methods for improving any processes to reduce waste, improve productivity, improve quality and/or consistency.
- Perform other tasks as may be directed by QA Lab Manager.
Food Safety and Quality Responsibilities
Applies the food safety and quality principles as described in the Marzetti Corporate Food Safety and Quality Manual and internal Marzetti Frozen Pasta policies, training and procedures in all applicable aspects of departmental and job functions.
Qualifications
Qualification Requirements:
- Basic math and science skills (degree preferred).
- Ability to follow detailed instructions (written & oral).
- Make and record observations.
- Efficiently organize work tasks and time.
- Written and oral communication skills (computer proficiency required).
- Be able to work and contribute in a team environment.

Working Conditions/Environment
Working Conditions/Environment:
Works in an office, laboratory and manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, crouch, reach and bend while moving about the facility. Requires some lifting of moderately heavy items such as test equipment and product cases. The employee is regularly exposed to moving machines and handling of hazardous testing and sanitation chemicals. The noise level in the lab is moderate and loud in the plant. Hairnets, ear plugs, goggles and gloves are required in accordance with GMP and safety standards. The employee is exposed to food allergens (wheat, eggs, milk, soy) and airborne particles of flour and other finely milled dry ingredients.
