Summary
Washington & Jefferson College is seeking a Chair of its Teacher Education Department. This is a tenure track position that welcomes a hire at either the associate or full professor level commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in education with a minimum of three to five years of teaching at the elementary or secondary school level. Experiences with accreditation, certification and federal reporting requirements also are important.
The department offers PK-4 & 4-8 certification with a Child Development and Education major offered in partnership with the Psychology Department; PK-12 specialty certification with an education minor and a major in Art, French, German, or Spanish; secondary certification with a minor in education and major in Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, Physics, or Social Studies (History); and PK-8 and Special Education (PK-12). Starting in the summer of 2025, the department also will be launching a 30-credit Master of Arts in Teaching program that will require nurturing.
The successful candidate will be able to teach literacy courses including Children's Literature, Literary, Reading & Writing and Teaching the Multilingual Learner and be responsible for reaccreditation of the education programs in 2025-2026 with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
The chair also supervises departmental faculty and staff; manages departmental evaluation; advises students; observes student teachers; participates in admissions events; serves on academic committees and provides visionary leadership.
