In collaboration with many stakeholders, the inaugural Associate Director of Advisor Training and Development will be responsible for contributing to this expansion and enhancement of academic advising at BU. Working collaboratively with colleagues in BU's undergraduate schools and colleges, the Associate Director of Advisor Training and Development will build and lead a comprehensive onboarding, training, and professional development program for approximately 120 professional undergraduate academic advisors at Boston University. In addition, the Associate Director will manage ongoing communication to the advising community, including delivery of important curriculum and policy updates. This position will support the expansion of existing professional development and community building activities for advisors. The Associate Director of Advisor Training and Development reports to the Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Advising and Student Success. On-boarding, Training, and Professional Development (70%). Develop and maintain a comprehensive onboarding, training, and professional development program for approximately 120 professional undergraduate academic advisors at Boston University. This training and development program will include areas such as: onboarding for new advisors, training on advising tools and resources and on the MyBU student information system, skill development for advisors, training on academic programs and policies, and administration of professional development workshops using in-person, virtual, and online formats. Manage the administration of the advisor training and development program, including tracking advisor completion and issuing certificates. Onboarding and training will be delivered virtually and in-person. Communication (10%). Manage ongoing communication to advising community, including delivery of important curriculum and policy updates; keep Undergraduate Advising and Student Success website updated. Community Collaboration (10%). Collaborate with the Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Advising and Student Success, the Advising Network, the Advising Steering Committee, and the undergraduate schools & colleges and central units on the administration of annual Academic Advising Awards, the planning for the annual Undergraduate Academic Advising Symposium, and other efforts to build community among advising staff. Assessment (5%). Administer regular advisor needs assessments and overall training program assessments. Other (5%). Other duties related to advising and the undergraduate experience, as assigned. Required Skills Master's degree in a relevant field and 5+ years of relevant, professional work experience or Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of relevant, professional work experience. Experience in holistic academic advising and an understanding of national trends and best practices in academic advising. Ability to interpret and communicate information and ideas clearly, accurately, and persuasively both verbally and in writing, including in materials intended for distribution. Excellent project management and time management skills with the ability to set priorities and to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines. Ability to exercise high attention to quality, accuracy, and detail. Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies. Ability to work well with students, faculty, and staff with diverse identities and from a range of backgrounds and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across campus. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience leading a training and development program, preferably within higher education. Experience applying instructional design methodology and principles to the design, delivery, and evaluation of trainings in all modalities. Cover letter and resume required.
