Isotope Mass Spectrometry Specialist Brown University To view the full job posting and apply for this position, go to: https://brown.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/staff-careers-brown/job/Geo-Chem-Building/Isotope-Mass-Spectrometry-Specialist_REQ198801 Job Description: This position oversees operations, major repair, and training in the use of isotope ratio mass spectrometers (e.g., gas-source, inductively coupled plasma) in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences (DEEPS) at Brown. The position also supports research and development related to novel isotopic methods, including collaboration with students and faculty. Specific responsibilities include: operation, repair, and user training on major research instrumentation supporting mass spectrometry; assisting, advising, and training faculty, students, and staff on selection, installation, and usage of isotope ratio mass spectrometers; and supporting department research and method development. Education and Experience Master's degree and a minimum of 5 years' experience in a related scientific field, such as engineering, physics, chemistry, and/ or earth science or equivalent combination of education and experience. PhD preferred. Prior technical experience with maintaining and troubleshooting gas-source stable isotope mass spectrometers is preferred. Fundamental knowledge of the physics and engineering of mass spectrometers. Strong computer skills to work with computer hardware and software related to instrument operations and computer networking. Ability and experience to troubleshoot both hardware and electronic problems in the above array of instrumentation. Good organizational skills to keep track of maintenance and calibration data for each instrument. Ability to work well with others in setting priorities and work schedules. Demonstrated ability to work well in training and collaborating with undergraduate students, graduate students, staff and faculty. Significant experience in handling environmental samples and evaluating instrument performance. Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment. Why Brown?
