Department Summary Digital Spaces manages physical and virtual classrooms, AV/IT operations and solutions, specialized learning environments, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces). Digital Spaces oversees that campus spaces are suitably equipped and functional to meet the needs of the educational experience. Digital Spaces oversees the installation and long-term management of display technologies (e.g., screen displays, digital signage) across campus and UCLA event locations. The Digital Spaces Services team manages physical and virtual classrooms, specialized learning environments, live event venues, digital signage, and other learning environments (e.g., conference spaces, dormitories, dining halls, etc.). This team makes sure all spaces on campus are suitably equipped with functional and innovative technology that meets the needs of the educational experience and enables the world-class teaching and learning for which UCLA is internationally recognized. Members of this team also manage the installation and long-term management of display technology across the university. Position Summary The Senior AV Technician [Senior A/V Technology Specialist] will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive audiovisual equipment strategies, which ensure highly available, performance-optimized, sustainability and reliability. The Senior A/V Technology Specialist will oversee and manage all learning, conference and collaboration spaces to ensure delivery of exceptional A/V experiences that leverage advanced technologies and platforms used throughout the campus. The Senior A/V Technology Specialist will manage relationships with AV equipment vendors and third-party service providers, negotiating contracts and coordinating highly complex A/V installations, maintenance, and repairs for mission-critical campus activities. They will strategically allocate resources, including personnel, budget, and A/V inventory to ensure A/V technologies are optimized and scaled to meet demands of large-scale educational or events across the campus. Additionally, the Senior A/V Technology Specialist will design, develop, document and enforce rigorous quality assurance standards and performance benchmarks to optimize the reliability of highly complex modern A/V equipment throughout its lifecycle. They will independently author, and implement comprehensive policies and procedures for AV equipment management, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and compliance with industry standards. The Senior A/V Technology Specialist will collaborate with senior leadership, event production teams key stakeholders and customers to ensure AV services meet large-scale events' visibility and impact requirements, providing expert advice and consultative support to senior management and event organizers.. The Senior A/V Technology Specialist will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling University stakeholders to effectively leverage data and insights in service of the institution's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. Qualifications Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, management, customer services, higher education, or a related field. (Required) Experience working in one or more of the following fields: audio-visual maintenance, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field. (Required) Experience in audiovisual equipment maintenance and repair, with a demonstrated track record of leadership and project management. (Required) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred) Technical skills in troubleshooting and repairing a wide range of audio-visual equipment, including complex AV systems, control interfaces, and networked components. (Required) Proven ability to develop and execute long-term maintenance strategies that prioritize equipment longevity and reliability. (Required) Strong ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, both independently and as part of a team. (Required) Thorough understanding of media production methods and equipment and ability to use this information to troubleshoot the most complex systems. (Required) Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to communicate ideas clearly. (Required) Able to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members and customers. (Required) Strong organizational skills and is able to prioritize and delegate urgent project needs using project management practices. (Required) Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills. Able to ask questions, gather information, and make decisions with integrity. Resolves escalated issues when applicable. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree in one or more of: information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of experience/training. (Preferred) AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment The anticipated pay range for this position is $32.09-$37.36/hour; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
