Generator Control Technician - Military Veterans

Perform Maintenance, Repairs, programming, and preventive Maintenance on all makes models of backup Generators, Automatic transfer switches. Perform work on all makes and model engine and ATS switches.
Responsibilities
- Perform Daily, weekly Monthly run sheets need performed Each Day.
- Perform Pm services on various Generators each month. Perform Pm on Various Automatic transfer switches.
- Load testing Generators (once year).
- Perform Trouble shooting, repairs, Breakdowns on Generators, And ATS switches.
- Perform ECM replacements and Programing work to install ECM, Injector replacement.
- Perform Daily Paperwork associated with job performed.
- Get Parts list and Estimate together for Job that Repairs Are needed.
- Transfer switch programing and Screen Replacements.
- Megger testing (once year).
- Read wire diagrams and wire schematics.
- Perform Generator control work and Programing.
- Install new Control systems for Generator and ATS switches.
- Emissions testing (with Analyzer) Once year.
- Accountable For:
- Base/ Stationary Generators and Associated Automatic transfer switch.
- Knowledge, Skill, And Abilities:
- Basic Electricity training /Certifications or Years of Experience.
- Basic Engine training /Certifications or Years of Experience.
- Generator fundamentals training /Certifications or Years of Experience.
- Applied Failure analyses training /Certifications or Years of Experience.
- Computer programing for ATS, Cat ET, Cummins, John deer, PSI, Company computer programs for reprograming ECM, Controller's and ATS/Certifications Required.
- Electric power classes Training 1,2,3 Certifications or Years of Experience.
- ATS, Switch Gear/ certifications Or Years of Experience.
- Acert Engine, And mechanical, HUI Engine systems.
- Thermo imaging.
- Gaseous Engines I Natural gas, Lp/Certifications.
- Service Tech workbench or related to Mechanical and Electronic fuel systems.
Qualifications
Engine Expertise
- Basic understanding of diesel and natural gas engines.
- Skilled in repairing and rebuilding engines of various makes, sizes, and models.
- Proficient in computer testing and diagnostics.
- Experience with ECM programming and injector calibration on diverse engine types.
- Ability to conduct applied failure analysis on failed components.
- Knowledge of fuel types and their setup.
- Expertise in performing overhead checks on diesel and natural gas engines.
- Competent with the basic use of hand tools.
Strong troubleshooting skills related to engine performance.
Generator Expertise
- 2+ years of experience or relevant training in generator maintenance and repair.
- Thorough understanding of generator fundamentals.
- Skilled in maintenance and use of service tools.
- Familiarity with NFPA 110 standards for life safety checks and ensuring performance meets manufacturer specifications.
- Proficiency in reading and using ladder logic and one-line diagrams.
- Knowledge of programming control breakers and working with voltage meters (e.g., 480 volts).
- Ability to properly set up generators for load and unload responses.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and principles.
- Working knowledge of generator controls and voltage regulators.
- Experience with software for programming ECMs and generator controllers.
- Strong troubleshooting skills specific to generator ends.
- Expertise in restarting generator sets to set voltages (120V, 240V, 480V).
- Ability to adjust generator controllers and system setups.
- Knowledge of hooking up and load-banking generator systems per NFPA 110 standards.
- Understanding of voltage droop and voltage gain adjustments.
- Ability to identify common generator components.
- Experience working with medium voltage generators.
ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) Expertise
- Knowledge of paralleling units and switchgear systems.
- Experience in disassembling and assembling transfer switch mechanisms.
- Skilled in diagnostics and troubleshooting live circuitry voltages.
- Understanding of both AC and DC voltages.
- Familiarity with programmable logic controller (PLC) system setup.
- Ability to identify ATS types, nameplates, and sizes.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams.
- Skilled in performing general maintenance on ATS switches.
- Ability to conduct ATS testing with load and no-load settings during utility outages.
- Strong understanding of ATS system operations.
- Skilled in thermographic testing of ATS systems.
- Ability to identify and program ATS controls for generator operation during power loss and restoration.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in programming and troubleshooting ATS systems or relevant training.
