Faculty Position in Innovation Management & Design Engineering | Brown University - Military Veterans

Open rank faculty position in Innovation Management & Design Engineering at Brown University?s School of Engineering with appointments ranging from Associate to Full Professor or Associate to Full Professor of the Practice depending on candidate?s background and focus. Position will be tenured/tenure track or untenured based on the candidate(s) selected. The School of Engineering at Brown University invites applications for an open rank faculty appointment with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024. The appointment will be made with a focus on design engineering and entrepreneurship. Appointment(s) will range from Associate to Full Professor or Associate to Full Professor of the Practice depending on candidate?s background and focus. Similarly, the position will be tenured/tenure track or untenured based on the candidate(s) selected. Brown is rapidly expanding its focus on design engineering and entrepreneurship. The establishment and growth of the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship has created a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem across the university. The School of Engineering (SoE), in 2021, established a new Innovation Management & Design Engineering group (IMDE). Note that groups are department-like constructs in Brown?s SoE context. In 2021, a joint Masters of Art in Design Engineering (MADE) was introduced in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), with the first class graduating in May 2022. The Masters in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship program (PRIME) has experienced rapid growth, becoming the highest enrolling masters in SoE and one of the largest master programs on campus. The Masters of Technology Leadership (MTL) executive program, run in coordination with Brown?s School of Professional Studies, has also seen significant enrollment growth. SoE also introduced a new design engineering concentration (major) in 2023 for our rising undergraduate engineering students. A primary goal in these initiatives is to fuse design with technology innovation/ entrepreneurship to build translational capacity to help solve global challenges, with a focus on topical areas highlighted in Brown?s Strategic Plan . To maintain this rapid growth and emerging impact trajectory, we seek to hire a faculty member with a stellar track record of research, technical accomplishments and/or practice contributing to design engineering, entrepreneurship, and technical leadership. The appointee will: a. Develop and maintain an active research program and/or practice engagement; b. Help develop and deliver a strong curricular vision for the SoE IMDE Group; c. Build fruitful relationships with the Nelson Center and other critical cross-campus stakeholders; and d. Play an integral role in strategic growth as a critical builder of design engineering and innovation management/ entrepreneurship capabilities within SoE. Applicants should hold a PhD in design, engineering, management or a related discipline. Applicants can receive courtesy appointments across engineering groups as applicable. SELECTION CRITERIA: Experience: Extensive experience in leading research or in practice Excellent teaching record with undergraduate and postgraduate students Experience supervising research teams and in incorporating undergraduate, master and PhD students in such efforts Experience building new and novel initiatives within an academic setting Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate ideas and concepts clearly, effectively and convincingly across disparate audiences High level of analytical capability Ability to make significant contributions to the management of the IMDE Group Proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of faculty, staff and students Excellent leadership, organizational and management skills Ability to work under pressure Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and with pan-campus stakeholders Ability to collaborate with others both internally and externally Personal attributes: Ability and interest in building early stage initiatives to drive impact with constrained resources Understanding and vision to inform the setting and delivery of strategic goals Willingness to engage in collaborative research Commitment to high quality teaching and fostering a positive learning environment for students Commitment to work as part of a team in assisting the smooth running of SoE, the IMDE Group and its research and teaching initiatives High ethical standards Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion All application materials should be submitted online through Interfolio http://apply.interfolio.com/137601, and include a complete CV and a statement of proposed research and teaching interests in support of our design engineering focus.
