Job Summary
Auburn University is excited to begin the search for an Administrative Support Specialist! This individual performs a variety of office support duties within Canine Performance Sciences program.
This is a two-year limited term appointment. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

Essential Functions
- Acts as office receptionist: receives and routes telephone calls and visitors; provides and gathers information.
- Prepares documents, reports, newsletters and manuscripts, and may compose correspondence.
- Operates standard office equipment such as personal computers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc.
- Maintains inventory and orders office supplies, materials and equipment.
- Processes and prepares forms such as work orders, purchase orders and personnel documents.
- Creates and maintains records, files, documents, and images in the data system.
- Calculates, posts, and verifies standard financial statements, reports and vouchers.
- May perform other office support duties such as payroll processing, document processing, and assisting with financial services.

High school diploma plus 4 years of experience in administrative support services.
Substitutions Allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Knowledge of extensive body of rules, precedents, procedures, applicable to administrative support work.

- Experience in clerical support services
- Experience in processing travel requests and reimbursement using GSA guidelines
- Knowledge of FLSA principles and experience in processing payroll
- Experience with AU or other human resources management activities such as posting positions, hiring and performance evaluation
- Experience with property/resource management and accounting
- Experience in coordinating events
- Experience in providing executive administrative support (i.e., prioritizing visitors and communications, supporting scheduling and arranging work travel of senior program personnel)
- Experience working in the AU Banner, Tiger Buy, and Kronos
- Experience in preparing budgets and maintaining excel files

Auburn University was established in 1856 as the East Alabama Male College, 20 years after the city of Auburn's founding. In 1872, under the Morrill Act, the school became the first land-grant college in the South and was renamed the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. In 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. Finally, in 1960 the name of the school was changed to Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, and expressing the varied academic programs and larger curriculum of a major university.
