What you will be doing
The Albertsons Own Brands team has an opening for an experienced Senior Manager, Category & Innovation. This position can be located in any of the following locations: Pleasanton, CA; Phoenix, AZ; Plano, TX; Boise, ID; Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Portland, OR; or Seattle, WA
The Senior Manager, Category & Innovation will work as part of the Own Brands Meat & Seafood Team to identify and execute against short- and long-term strategic growth opportunities In partnership with the Own Brands Senior Director this person will have significant responsibility for developing and driving category strategy, managing business performance to grow profitable sales and market share, leveraging data to influence key stakeholders, and activating consumer insights to recommend and commercialize innovation. They will be responsible for leading projects or whole businesses with elevated responsibilities, expectations, and visibility.
They will collaborate cross-functionally with the National Meat & Seafood Team, Division Merchants and the Own Brands commercialization team (Sourcing, Quality, Product Development, Regulatory, and Design).
They are expected to manage all key issues that impact the business driving to meet business objectives as well as lead and coach junior members of the team.
Main responsibilities
- Define and drive Own Brands strategy and tactical plans for assigned categories, and manage performance across the 4 P's, with accountability for business results. Lead major strategic projects and/or platforms for category inclusive of innovation and base business.
- Analyze performance and prepare period and quarterly reports, and annual category reviews. Recommend and drive implementation of category learnings to ensure Own Brands meets financial plan and capitalizes on opportunities.
- Enable sales by working cross-functionally on an ongoing basis to ensure supply, costing and quality.
- Use category management practices to sell-in new items to National Category Directors and Division Merchants.
- Become an expert on the business through ongoing analysis, trends and insights, and deep knowledge of category dynamics, the shopper, and competition.
- Partner with National Meat & Seafood Team to identify and gain alignment on opportunities and priorities, and influence implementation of Own Brands strategies.
- Leverage shopper insights, market data, and trends to identify "white space" opportunities and define long-term innovation pipelines. Make strategic recommendations for renovation, activation, or rationalization.
- Develop business rationale supported by data/analytics, and present to Leadership and internal stakeholders for alignment.
- Lead cross-functional team through Stage Gate process to commercialize innovation and/or product improvements from idea to successful retail execution, with responsibility for product scope, forecasting and financial targets, packaging design, and launch planning.
- Partner with Senior Director to deliver ad hoc strategic projects and/or category analyses as needed, inclusive of the annual strategic business plan
- Manage, coach and develop direct reports to support Own Brands initiatives.
- Focus on delivering exceptional results with little guidance and escalating as necessary.
The salary range is $102,700 to $160,000 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.
What we are searching for
- Bachelor's degree required in Business Marketing, Economics, or Finance. MBA preferred.
- 8+ years of product innovation management, brand management and/or category management experience in a CPG or retail company required. Meat or Poultry industry experience required.
- Demonstrated success at Senior Manager level, with experience managing direct reports.
- 8+ years experience influencing decision makers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of P&L dynamics, and category management and merchandising philosophies, with proven record of success
- High level of experience with syndicated data metrics and software (e.g., Circana, Nielsen, Numerator, EYC)
- Advanced analytical skills and computer software proficiency (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated strategic thinking. Strong understanding and application of innovation thinking and the 4Ps of marketing.
- Proven ability to analyze and identify insights from a combination of quantitative and qualitative data sources, and develop strategic actions
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead cross-functional team members and external stakeholders to deliver projects.
- Demonstrated high capacity, strong work ethic and productivity. Ability to multi-task and manage many complex projects and priorities, in a fast-paced environment.
- Expert organization, prioritization, and project management skills
- Proven success story-telling with data, by developing impactful and persuasive PowerPoint presentations
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to go above and beyond to deliver results, defining projects without direction from others.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders to manage the business.
- Advanced presentation skills with the ability to present to senior leaders both internally and externally.
