This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $67,800 - $122,800. The budgeted salary range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $78,500 - $96,000. About the Job Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence (AVC-EJIE) in the Division of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence (EJIE), this position provides instructional and curriculum development and expertise, training and facilitation support, and consultative services, designed to enhance knowledge and skills in multicultural competency in the area of diversity, equity, and inclusion for UC Merced campus units and members of the community, including students, staff, faculty, and administrators. This position involves developing, implementing, and / or administering diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and programs, with oversight from leadership in the Division of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence. Provides proactive leadership, consultation, advice, and support to change systems, structures, policies, and processes. Leads engagement to advance, integrate, and embed diversity, equity, and inclusion competency into all aspects of university life and across the campus community. Facilitates dialogue and conversations about sensitive topics. Leads and advances strategies for institutional as well as individual student, staff, faculty, and administrator responsibility and accountability in preventing and combating discrimination through inclusive excellence practices. Conducts analyses of current structures, policies, systems and data, as well as implementing a tracking, evaluating, and recording-keeping system of programs and initiatives. Key Responsibilities: DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION EDUCATION PROGRAMMING, INSTRUCTION, AND COURSE DEVELOPMENT: Under the supervision of the AVC-EJIE, this position develops and designs educational and professional development programming that encompasses a variety of topics related to the promotion of campus and workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion. This position designs, curates, and employs needs-based assessment to identify and implement instruction and training modules (in- class, e-learning, and virtual, including webinars and workshops) that support the operationalization of diversity, equity, and inclusion as stated in UC Merced's Principles of Community and Strategic Plan across University stakeholders. This includes working in a consultative capacity with departments/units/organizations across campus. The aim of design and implementation of programming, instruction, and course development is to enrich understanding and promote skills that support diverse work environments, including fostering an inclusive campus climate. This position also leads the development, maintenance, and training of students, staff, faculty, and administrators, across academic and administrative units, including EJIE-related programs and initiatives. TRAINING PORTFOLIO MAINTENANCE, IMPLEMENTATION, AND CONSULTATION This position works in consultation with EJIE leadership in developing, curating, and offerings of training programs and workshops that integrate diversity and inclusion in workplace and campus environments. This position has expertise in selecting methods of delivery and instruction of content that covers various topics related to DEI, accounting for diverse audiences and stakeholders. This position conducts research on emerging issues and topics that inform the development of new training programs and revision of existing training programs that respond to stakeholder and community needs. This position also designs and conducts complex workshops that assist organization leaders to employ strategies that integrate diversity and inclusion in their units, and the implementation of policies and practices associated with UC Merced's EJIE strategic vision. This position works independently in exploring opportunities that expand diversity and inclusion education offerings at UC Merced. The position manages the maintenance, delivery, evaluation and assessment, revision, tracking, and record-keeping of EJIE-related training and education portfolio. SUPPORT FOR OTHER EJIE INITIATIVES, ACTIVITIES, EVENTS, AND AFFILIATED PROGRAMS Support for EJIE activities, events, and programming sponsored by the Division or affiliated units, groups, and programs. Represent the VC-EJIE/CDO and/or AVC-EJIE on various campus committees and working groups, including advisory committees, relating to EJIE. Participate in ad hoc groups formed in response to campus incidents that impact campus climate. Represent the activities of UC Merced at local and/or national conferences and gatherings related to diversity, inclusion, and overall campus climate. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social sciences, social welfare, psychology, education, public policy, or related field (required); and/or Advanced degree from an accredited university in a related field (preferred); and Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience or involvement in equity, diversity, and inclusion education, training, instruction, and/or programming, or a combination of education, training, and experience as outlined. An advanced degree in a related area as outlined, is preferred and may substitute for one year of experience (required); and Experience in working with faculty and administration in the development of training curricula in a higher education setting. Experience in developing evaluative tools that measure the impact of diversity and inclusion education in a higher education setting. Experience in developing critical metrics that measure training effectiveness across diverse audiences. Demonstrated experience in developing and teaching on-line modules and other e-learning curricula (webinars) that maximizes interaction among participants (preferred) Critical Knowledge, Experience, and Competencies: Demonstrated experience in evaluating, developing, implementing and leading diversity and inclusion training and instruction that has organizational impact. Demonstrated interpersonal and group process/facilitation skills to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and audience size. Demonstrated organization, assessment, problem solving, negotiation and decision-making skills with expertise in clarifying and resolving conflict situations and developing attainable goals and procedures. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to understand and interpret complex materials and to formulate and present oral and written material in a logical and comprehensive manner. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and supervisory skills, with a proven record of working collaboratively while achieving outcomes. Proven ability to function effectively in a diverse, ever-changing, and unpredictable environment. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations. Knowledge of various computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated knowledge of the issues and needs of culturally diverse groups in a workplace environment and understanding of diversity and inclusion concepts and theories that inform equitable workplace practice and policies. Knowledge of social justice theories, cross-cultural concepts, armative action/equal employment opportunity laws and policies and ability to incorporate these concepts into training designs that guide organizational practices and policies (preferred).
