A Snapshot of Your Day (position overview)
We are looking for a highly skilled Research and Development Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on developing design tools and software for large gas turbines.
How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities)
- Develop design tools and software for subject areas such as aerodynamics, heat transfer, mechanical integrity, and lifing.
- Collaborate with CAD designers to build stable, parametric geometries for components.
- Write scripts to automate toolchains and facilitate multi-disciplinary optimization.
- Develop damage-tolerant design tools and software to support the gas turbine service team.
- Capture requirements, develop, document, deploy, and maintain software and design tools.
- Prepare training documents and presentations to instruct engineers on using design tools, ensuring project success in time, cost, and quality.
What You Bring (requirements)
- Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering.
- 3+ years of experience (or a PhD) in the gas or aero turbine industry.
- Strong background in developing design tools, engineering software, and scripts with proficiency in programming languages like Python, C++, Fortran, bash, and more.
- Extensive experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments, databases, data structures, and cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Knowledge of advanced technologies, including machine learning, artificial intelligence, surrogate models, digital twins, and LLMs.
- Proficiency in parametric CAD software (e.g., NX), front-end tools like React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and version control systems like GitLab.
- Strong analytical, statistical, and mathematical skills coupled with in-depth knowledge of gas turbine components, design, and engineering methods.
- Highly motivated and self-directed with excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration in technical environments.
- Must be eligible to work on control technology as required by U.S. export control regulations.
- Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
