The primary responsibility of the Technician, Field Construction is to provide general labor to assist in various Outside Plant Construction scenarios.
NOTE: This position may be filled as a Construction Technician I, II or III depending on level of experience

Job Specific Responsibilties:
Technician, Field Construction I
Must maintain a safe work record and identify potentially unsafe working scenarios or conditions. Must be able to follow OSHA general guidelines as directed.
Must demonstrate ability to work efficiently as a team member.
Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Technician, Field Construction II
Have a proven ability to interact cooperatively in a team environment, occasionally taking a leadership role when needed.
Must maintain a safe work record and identify potentially unsafe working scenarios or conditions. Must be able to follow OSHA general guidelines as directed.
Must be able to operate at least one type of heavy machinery that is used in outside plant construction operations
Must be able to completely understand and interpret all underground utility marks. Must also be able to locate underground utilities using electronic locating equipment.
Must demonstrate ability to work independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or within a team.
Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner. Should be able to help with team coordination efforts to create an efficient work environment
Must be able to call in one call tickets and also be knowledgeable of the one call laws.
Technician, Field Construction III
Possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate Construction scenarios clearly to other team members or outside parties.
Have a proven ability to interact cooperatively, recognizing when to take a leadership role and regularly taking a leadership role in a team environment.
Responsible for training new hires in all functions of the required job responsibilities.
Must be able to display a sense of urgency, professionalism, and have an ownership mentality while putting customers and potential customers first.
Must maintain a safe work record and identify potentially unsafe working scenarios or conditions. Must know OSHA requirements and communicate them with team. Must be able to be considered as an OSHA "competent person"
Must be able to operate at least two types of heavy machinery that are used in outside plant construction operations
Must be able to completely understand and interpret all underground utility marks. Must be able to question and explain concerns to utility locators or other companies if needed. Must also be able to locate underground utilities using electronic locating equipment.
Must be able to make recommendations on new approaches to current construction projects when needed.
Must demonstrate ability to work completely independently, being highly productive and efficient when working alone or as a lead within a team.
Must coordinate, schedule, and oversee day to day activities and priorities of teams as needed at a project level. Insure projects are completed on time, according to acceptable standards, and in accordance with C Spire practices. Must be able to coordinate and hold safety meetings
Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner. Must be able to help with team coordination efforts to create an efficient work environment
Must be able to call in one call tickets and be held accountable for timelines regarding the tickets.
- Technician, Field Construction I
- REQUIRED
- Minimum one year experience in general construction or like service required; telecom industry experience preferred. Equivalent military training & experience may be substituted.
- Must be able to use computer for email communications and for general job functions.
- Must be able to login to proprietary systems and email attachments.
- REQUIRED
- Technician, Field Construction II
- REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent required.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a class A CDL license.
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in general construction or like service required, as well as at least one year of experience heavy equipment operation.
- Must be able to use computer for email communications and for general job functions.
- Must be able to login to proprietary systems and email attachments
- PREFERRED
- Minimum one year telecom construction experience strongly preferred.
- Minimum one year of directional drilling experience strongly preferred.
- Any certifications in equipment operation a plus.
- REQUIRED
- Technician, Field Construction III
- REQUIRED
- High School Diploma or recognized equivalent required.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a class A CDL license.
- Some leadership training or proven leadership experience required.
- Minimum five years’ experience in general construction or like service required, as well as at least three years of heavy equipment operation.
- Minimum two years telecom construction experience required.
- Minimum two years directional drilling experience required.
- Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to use computer for email communications and for general job functions.
- Must be comfortable using Microsoft Office for email and Microsoft Excel for production reports.
- Must be able to login to proprietary systems and email attachments. Should be able to build complete reports for submission to management
- PREFERRED
- A two-year associates degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Any certifications in equipment operation a plus.
- REQUIRED
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS /WORKING CONDITIONS: Must have the physical ability to help with general day to day maintenance of construction tools and machinery. Must be physically fit able to lift 50+ lbs, bend/crouch regularly, extensive walking, etc. Must be able to work outside in all-weather environments on a regular basis.
