The Utility Crew Leader directs and participates in the work activities of personnel performing equipment operations, technical skills and manual labor, while controlling those tasks required to perform construction, maintenance and repair of the City’s water and/or wastewater system. Communicates both orally and in writing with various departments, other utilities, contractors and citizens concerning job related tasks and assignments.





EXAMPLE OF DUTIES


Directs all work activities of equipment operators and skilled labor who perform work on the City’s water and/or wastewater systems. Inspects all work being performed by subordinates to insure compliance with City and department standards and polices.Operates all vehicles, equipment and machinery used in the construction, installation maintenance and repair of the City Water and/or Wastewater Systems.In conjunction with supervisor, reviews plans and specifications of drawings to insure proper installation.Compiles information for the final “AS-BUILT” drawings of the City’s water and/or wastewater systems.Insures all rules, regulations and policies of the City and department are followed.Observes and enforces all safety requirements involved in construction, maintenance and repair of the City’s water and/or wastewater system, including but not limited to, confined spaces, trenches, vehicle, equipment and machinery operation, compressors and use of all pneumatic tools.Provides information to supervisor and assistant director in regards to employees' job performance as related to their job description.Enforces all rules and regulations and reports all violations as directed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).Uses various line locate equipment to spot City water and/or wastewater lines for other contractors.Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.Performs all other job related duties as assigned or as become apparent.Ability to get along with other employees and the public.





SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION


Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of and ability to operate various vehicles, equipment and machinery used in the repair and maintenance of the City’s water and/or wastewater systems. Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as chemical labels, instruction/operation manuals and policies. Ability to write correspondence, reports and complete forms. Ability and skill in directing subordinates' work in a safe and orderly manner, spending appropriate amount of time on assigned jobs. Ability to perform all related work required on maintenance and repair of City’s water and/or wastewater systems. Ability to follow and issue both oral and written instructions. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required; associates degree in a related field is preferred. Three years supervisory experience required. Requires a minimum of either a Class II Collection License OR a Grade C Distribution License (according to assigned division), issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Will accept a Class II Collection and a Class D Water with an upgrade to Class C Distribution before the Class D Water license expires. Valid Texas Class B Commercial driver’s license with a tanker endorsement required. Must obtain a Class A Commercial driver’s license with a tanker endorsement within six months of employment. Driving record that meets City guidelines. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (i.e. Safety Boots).
