Cable Installer - Military Veterans

Forward Slash Technology is a St. Louis-based Cyber Security, Managed Services and Information Technology provider.





We are looking to add an experienced Cable Installer skilled in the installation, testing and troubleshooting of cable and infrastructure management to our staff. This role is critical for ensuring the proper functioning of various low voltage technologies in the commercial setting.








Our ideal candidate would possess





  • Proven experience as a low voltage cable installer for CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, and CAT6a


  • Knowledge of low voltage cabling standards and best practices


  • Familiarity with Network Audio Visual, Video Surveillance, Door Access Controls, Telecommunications Systems, and Infrastructure Management (MDF/IDF)






  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications


  • Excellent communication skills and demeanor


  • Experience using hand and power tools (drills, hammers, networking tools, telecom Buttsets, etc.)


  • Good work ethic – meaning that you do a full and complete job, you are punctual, have a professional appearance, and are courteous & respectful to your co-workers and our clients


  • Flexibility with work times and work locations (i.e., early start and late finish times, holiday/weekend as needed)


  • Be knowledgeable of the TIA wiring standards
  • Knowledge of commercial construction sites








Job responsibilities would include, but are not limited to, the following





  • Coordinate with Service Manager and peers to schedule and complete daily service/work orders at various Client sites


  • Installation and terminations of low voltage copper; RJ11, RJ45, 22/6, etc. to a patch panel, 66/110 Block, phoenix, RJ45 connectors, etc.


  • Be able to read digital meters (Fluke) and fiber testers and certifiers


  • Mount telecom equipment while adhering to industry best practices, and manufacturer requirements


  • Infrastructure Management – installation of network and telecom racks, wall mount cabinets, routers, switches, patch panels, and cable management, etc.


  • Maintain all documentation related to cabling infrastructure


  • Design and Install cable supports and network cable pathways


  • Installation of door access controls, video surveillance cameras, audio video conferencing systems and other IP devices while working with System Engineer.






  • Be able to adapt to varying work environments (i.e., inside or outside, small spaces, varying heights, quiet or noisy spaces, open construction areas)


  • Interact with Clients


  • Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity and wire related issues


  • Conducting site surveys at Client site






  • Technicians should be able manage and maintain exact inventory for parts, tools, supplies and provided hardware and equipment


  • Be able to operate a motor vehicle (Transit, Vans, Truck) and be able to pull a trailer
  • Maintain Cleanliness on job site and in company vehicles.








Other desired skills but not required





  • Fiber optic splicing and certification


  • Experience in fiber, including SC and LC Connectors, anaerobic terminations, and splicing
  • Experience in installing conduit (PVC/Metal)








Candidate will be required to





  • Live in the St. Louis Metropolitan Area


  • Pass a MSHP/Federal fingerprint-based background check


  • Pass regular random drug test(s)


  • Successfully pass a CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Systems) Security & Privacy Training Certification


  • Must be a US Citizen


  • Must have a valid US driver's license with a clean driving record


  • Lift and carry 50 lbs. (i.e. TVs, racks, UPSs, cabling, tools, ladders, etc.)






  • Ability carry, assemble, climb, and work from ladders


  • Ability to stand for extended period of time


  • Safety compliance – must be able to work safely following company policy and procedures on safety; candidate will have to complete OSHA safety training and pass OSHA certification tests and exams
  • Wear personal protection equipment (hard hats, steel toe shoes, safety vest, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety harness, etc. where applicable and/or required)

Compensation





  • $18 - $25/hour, dependent on related work experience and proficiency


  • Full-time, Monday thru Friday
