Summary of Position:
A successful Fiber Splicing Technician (Lead) shall be responsible for proper preparation and splicing of fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. The position requires a good working knowledge of telecommunications network structure; familiarity with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and the functionality of each; ability to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment; ability to read fiber matrices; ability to interpret and analyze data; ability to identify and troubleshoot problems; and, some experience leading or supervising other fiber techs.
Experience & Education Requirements:
- 4+ years of Fiber Optic construction/installation experience.
- Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including traffic meters, fusion splicer, power meter, VFL and OTDR using EXFO Fast Reporter with IOLM Format.
- Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
- General Computer Skills; Word, Power Point, Excel, Internet, e-mail, and industry software as required.
- Ability to organize and prioritize effectively.
- Accountable – Take ownership and commit to get it right, the first time.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Additional Hiring Requirements:
- Must be able to work a very flexible schedule.
- Must be able to travel throughout various locations in/out of state with some overnight stays as necessary. Company vehicles are provided during your workday, but employees must have reliable transportation to get to/from the job sites.
- Must have a smart cell phone to clock in/out of mobile application.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check (offenses will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis).
- Must possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which you reside and satisfactory results of a Motor Vehicle Report.
- Obtaining and maintaining an interstate DOT Medical Card and meeting all Federal Interstate FMCSA requirements to operate a Regulated Motor Vehicle will be required.
- Verifying your legal right to work in the United States under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA).
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outdoors and to work in all types of outdoor weather.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement.
- Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time -100% of the position is traveling or in the field performing work in various locations.
