Bellevue Emergency Management Outreach Member - Military Veterans

The City of Bellevue's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is dedicated to preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters in the region. While first responders play an important role in disaster response, the reality is that improving personal preparedness amongst community members is critical to building a resilient city that is prepared for any disaster! AmeriCorps members will have the unique opportunity to work hand in hand with emergency management personnel and first responders to build programs that allow the City of Bellevue to connect with residents and provide them with the critical information and skills that are necessary in an emergency. Specifically, the members will be developing programs that support community members that have traditionally faced additional barriers in disaster response and recovery, such as those with access and functional needs and those who have limited English proficiency. These residents are often disproportionately impacted by disasters and the AmeriCorps members’ goal will be to help those community members in becoming more resilient. We are looking for AmeriCorps members who have a passion for public service and want to make a tangible impact on the lives of our community members. To be successful, members will need strong interpersonal skills, the ability to be flexible and adapt to emergency situations, and excellent project management experience. During their service, AmeriCorps members will gain unique insight into the world of emergency management and learn about how we plan and train for disasters. AmeriCorps members will also be provided with an Orca card for public transportation in the surrounding region. Finally, you will receive mentorship and support from the current OEM team who are eager to see you succeed in building a stronger and more prepared community!
