Senior Structured Cabling Estimator - Military Veterans

Position Summary: At Blackbox, our mission is to design & build the smartest, most efficient and most advanced buildings in the world! Our structured cabling estimators are responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for our largest and most complex structured cabling projects. This role involves evaluating project requirements, interpreting blueprints, and developing detailed proposals in collaboration with our world-class delivery organization. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the structured cabling industry, with a strong understanding of materials, labor, and time requirements to ensure successful project bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Evaluation and Assessment:
- Conduct thorough reviews of project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to understand project requirements.
- Perform site surveys to assess existing conditions and identify potential challenges or constraints.
- Cost Estimation:
- Develop detailed cost estimates for structured cabling projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Utilize industry-standard estimation tools and software to ensure accuracy and efficiency in the estimation process.
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals and detailed scope-of-work documents.
- Vendor and Supplier Coordination:
- Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and quality.
- Build and maintain relationships with key vendors and suppliers to negotiate favorable terms and pricing.
- Project Planning and Scheduling:
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop project timelines and schedules.
- Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project delivery within budget and on time.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of all estimates, including assumptions, calculations, and source data.
- Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on project estimates, cost variances, and budgetary concerns.
- Technical Expertise:
- Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in structured cabling.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior estimators and other team members.
- Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards (TIA, ISO/IEC) and local building codes.
- Quality Assurance:
- Review and validate estimates prepared by junior estimators to ensure accuracy and completeness. Conduct post-project evaluations to refine estimation processes and improve future accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., RCDD, BICSI, PMP) are highly desirable.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in structured cabling estimation, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role. Proven track record of successfully estimating and bidding on large-scale cabling projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in using estimation software and tools (e.g., Esticom/Procore, Accubid, Bluebeam).
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Familiarity with networking equipment and infrastructure components.
- Experience with smart building/IoT solutions and sensors a plus.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex project documentation and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and address potential challenges during the estimation process.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Organizational and Time Management Skills:
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require occasional travel to project sites.
- Ability to work in various environments, including office settings, construction sites, and client locations. Must be able to lift and carry equipment and materials as needed
