This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we’re developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.







In this role, you will be responsible for managing the Operational Data Enablement team that enables the use of data in decision making across the company from engineering to flight operations and more. This position will be responsible for developing the roadmap and implementation of data products to connect the enterprise and allow cross-domain operational data products for Blue Origin.





This position requires a technical leader with the ability to lead technical teams and partner with sister teams and customers. Experience building event driven systems, deep knowledge of public clouds, serverless compute, kubernetes, CI/CD, data fabric, metadata management and spark computing are vital for this role.

Responsibilities:









  • Lead and mentor an experienced team of Data Engineers and Software Developers to build, integrate and scale operational data products to solve tough business problems







  • Passionate about data quality and trust







  • Build and scale our operational data platform to work for more users in more ways







  • Work with practitioners and customers to develop new ways to federate analysis, operational application development and enable a "shift left" philosophy to data ownership







  • Define and manage incident management, customer communications, RCAs and implement mitigation strategies for data products







  • Operate our enterprise data lakehouse for the organization to support business analytics, data science and adhoc analysis







  • Be a center of excellence for the data engineering and data ops practices at Blue Origin







  • Work with Data Governance and Cyber Security to ensure data models are implemented in a secure and ethical manner







  • Monitor, analyze and report on the performance of the platform, identifying areas for improvement and making data-driven decisions to optimize the platform's performance and return on investment.









Qualifications:









  • 5+ years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language







  • 3+ years of people management experience







  • Experience having built part of a modern data lakehouse stack, from design to production code







  • Experience hiring top talent and driving career growth for early-in-career and senior engineers







  • The ability to set ambitious goals with measurable results and familiarity with frameworks such as OKRs







  • A proven track record of delivering complex, large-scale projects







  • Experience working with product managers to collaboratively set a vision







  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills







  • Deep technical knowledge about one or more of Spark, Databricks, Palantir, ML Flow or similar technologies







  • Clear understanding of the software development lifecycle from reviewing requirements to debugging sophisticated systems in production







  • Experience with Databricks and/or Palantir Foundry







  • Comfortable diving into the code with your team when the situation calls for it







  • Experience with AWS, data engineering, data modeling and data quality







  • Experience working with APIs and Cloud based data platform implementations including observability & monitoring, data cataloging, metadata management and security & governance







  • Ability to lead product roll-out process from conception through final operationalization







  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $187,266.00-$262,172.40

Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.







Discretionary bonus: Bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
