Requirements Mentors supervise and provide an enriching and educational experience for a cohort of up to 25 high school students. The ideal applicant is energetic and enthusiastic about academic enrichment and the college experience. The best Mentors take initiative to solve problems, communicate naturally and empathetically with high-school students, and can maintain daily habits that help them stay organized. The Mentor is an academic support position. Summer College Immersion Program: The Summer College Immersion Program (SCIP) is a scholarship program for high school students from partner schools in the Kipp and Cristo Rey networks across the country to come and join us at Georgetown for 3 weeks to get a taste of the college experience. The program is a mix of lectures about the college experience, sample classes, off-site visits, and team building heavily focused on students finding their identity and belonging as they begin exploring college. Responsibilities: Program Development Completing training and research to understand the program Learning about the program subject(s) to understand course material and better support the student experience Assisting in the final planning stages of the program Planning and preparing for discussions sections and team building Working with other Mentors and the Assistant Academic Director (AAD) to come up with group hands-on experiences Program Implementation Attending and engaging in all program activities, including but not limited to lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and off-site visits Maintaining daily and event attendance records Providing daily academic and classroom support, such as: leading check-ins, discussion sections and/or reflections, assisting students with assignments and projects Ensuring students are aware of and engaged in daily activities Answering general inquiries and questions about schedules, policies, and procedures Student Affairs Building community and belonging amongst the students and staff Creating a safe and supportive academic environment for students Working collaboratively with residential staff to create an inclusive and welcoming environment Enforcing University policies, procedures, and regulations for students Establishing appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the University's Protection of Minors Policy Providing support to students dealing with personal concerns (e.g. stress, homesickness, relationship difficulty) that may detract from their academic experiences Providing support to students facing insecurity, unfamiliarity, and other challenges associated with adjusting to college learning and a diverse university campus Reflecting with students on their learning processes and their academic and professional goals Reporting unsafe, inappropriate, or concerning behavior, student conduct issues, and emergencies to appropriate parties for resolution Connecting students to resources on campus, as appropriate Schedule: Training Part I (Online) | May 19, 2025 Training Part II | June 2 - 6, 2025 or June 16 - 20, 2025 Summer College Immersion Program in Session | June 29 - July 18, 2025 Terms: Mentors are designated for the spring and summer 2025 term with dates of employment from May 19 through August 9, 2025 SCIP Mentors will work approximately 2-5 hours before the first program launches. SCIP Mentors will work approximately 40-60 hours per week while the program runs. Some overtime, evening, and weekend commitments may be required once programs begin. Mentors will not exceed 20 overtime hours per week. Mentors are full-time and precluded from having simultaneous obligations during the designated time commitment. Employment with the University is at will and may be terminated by Mentors or the University at any time without notice or cause. Employment with the University should not be considered as an implied or explicit guarantee of employment or as a personal contract. Failure to meet the standards and expectations of the University, the School of Continuing Studies, and the Office of Summer and Special Programs may result in termination. Mentors forfeit any provided university housing and meal plan once terminated. Compensation: Compensation is $17.55 per hour for up to 40 hours per week. University housing will be provided in the summer term. A meal plan will be provided in the summer term. Boxed meals will be provided when off-site visits overlap with breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. Requirements and Qualifications: Current or graduating undergraduate or graduate student or recently graduated Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Zoom Preferred Qualifications: Current or graduating GU student SCIP Alumnus Experience working in an educational setting Experience working with faculty Experience working with high school students Supervisory and/or leadership experience Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University Knowledge or experience relating to the Academy subject matter is a plus How to Apply Please review the information and steps below carefully - only applicants who have completed both applicable steps will be considered.
