Life Safety Officer | The Ohio State University - Military Veterans

SCOPE OF POSITION: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) is committed to providing quality, cost-effective patient care in an environment sensitive to all persons who are cared for, work in or are visiting the hospitals and related areas. The individual in this position will serve as part of the team in support of the mission, vision and values as established by the Medical Center. This person will assure that all fire and life safety policies, procedures and operations for the Medical Center are planned and developed in accordance with the vision of the organization and in compliance with accreditation and regulatory bodies. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness, the Life Safety Manager is responsible for the development and implementation of a comprehensive fire and life Safety program for OSUWMC. This position designs, aids in implementation, and evaluates accreditation, environment of care and life safety functions. Serves as a subject matter expert for OSUWMC for fire and life safety. Provides reports and recommendations to the Director of Safety and Emergency Preparedness pertaining to life and fire safety, compliance, and environment of care. Assists with conceptualizing, planning, and implementing programs and activities related to the safety of patients, visitors, staff, and property. Monitors Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission (TJC), The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and other governmental and health care publications and websites for pertinent information applicable to the accreditation, compliance, and regulatory programs. Has knowledge of OSUWMC policies, rules and regulations. Serve as a liaison with university and governmental officials, high level officials from outside hospitals and agencies OSUWMC executives and department head staff, departmental chairpersons, faculty, physicians, patients and the general public. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering, public administration or closely related field or equivalent experience. 2 years of technical development relevant experience required. Desired Experience :. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred. Extensive knowledge of life and fire safety applications of local, state and federal laws, codes, regulations, standards, specifications and policies. Experience with the operations and administration of a hospital or healthcare organization. Demonstrated experience in life and fire safety, project management or planning, and implementing, and coordinating complex events. Knowledge of NFPA and Ohio Building Code. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint Target Salary Range: $58,700-$77,200 Function - Environmental Health and Safety Sub Function - Life Safety Officer 2 Band - Individual Contributor - Specialized Level - S2
