Pharmacy Technician 3 Job Summary #DS-CA This position provides a lead role and coordination of activities for inspection of clinic medication storage, proper dating of medications, certification of clinic staff for storing controlled substances, and verification of all medication storage for Hospital-based and Primary Care clinics. This position is 85% coordination of medication storage and 10% audit of controlled substance compliance and 5% special projects assigned by supervisor. California Licensed Pharmacy Technician Experience entering detailed data into computer systems including but not limited to, Electronic Medical Record, Veriform, automated dispensing units via keyboard or touch screen. Experience with and thorough understanding of drug categories, metric system and medical terminology. Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise. Ability to prioritize workflow and job assignments while working in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work and performs all duties in an independent manner. Demonstrated safe driving record and ability to safely drive a University vehicle to clinic sites in the greater Sacramento area and surrounding communities. Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and pay close attention to detail. Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations. Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand, including individuals who are ill or distressed, or who may not speak English. Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create and implement viable solutions, and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. Ability to recognize situations that exceed technician authority and ability and must be referred to a pharmacist for resolution. Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached. Basic knowledge of automated dispensing systems and controlled substance systems. Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload, with frequent interruptions, under tight deadlines, and when interacting with challenging customers who may be ill, angry or emotionally distressed. Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained and that a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times. Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment and positive working relationships with co-workers and customers. Knowledge of pharmacy terminology. Preferred Qualifications Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Familiarity with hospital, HBC, PCN layout, names and location of patient care areas. Knowledge of the Hospital, Department and University Policies and Procedures Ability to evaluate and recommend alternatives that enhance the areas' performance. Ability to impart knowledge and skills to students participating in training programs. Ability to use metric system.
