Scientist - In Vitro Neuroimmunology- Boston, MA

Our company's Neuroimmunology team in Boston, MA is seeking an independent and motivated scientist with a background in cell biology, immunology, and/or neuroscience to join us in validating and advancing novel neuroimmune targets for CNS diseases. As a Scientist, you will apply your knowledge and skillsets to establish assay systems and deliver datasets that will impact pipeline programs. Working in this lab-based position, your primary role will be to execute in vitro experiments including designing, establishing, and characterizing cell-based model systems, especially induced pluripotent stem cell (IPSC) models, and performing analysis in support of established and emerging therapeutic discovery programs. Successful candidates will be able to work independently and will be expected to proactively collaborate with colleagues across disciplines. The candidate will be an active participant in the positive and critical scientific dialogue that supports our mission of discovering novel immune-based therapies for CNS diseases.

The responsibilities of the Neuroimmunology team member include:

  • Assist in developing, executing, and troubleshooting new cell-based assays, protocols, and analysis methods.
  • Design and execute experiments, interpret data, and communicate results and findings clearly and concisely to teams and stakeholders
  • Support the isolation/characterization of tissues, whole blood, PBMCs and iPSC-derived cell populations using immunocytochemistry, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, NanosString, RNA-seq and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Collaborate across functional areas
  • Excellent oral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner to the appropriate teams and stakeholders.
  • Monitor and review published work to guide internal research.


EDUCATION:
  • BS degree in molecular and cell biology or related disciplines such as immunology or biological engineering with 2+ years of wet lab experience in academia or industry OR MS and 0+ years of experience.


REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive independently and in a team environment.
  • Extensive experience with iPSC cell culture including constructing increasingly complex in vitro models
  • Design, develop and execute novel in-vitro assays across multiple platforms for compound screening
  • Application of standard laboratory cell culture procedures including DNA transfection, viral delivery and immunocytochemistry
  • Independently able to perform tissue and cellular protein/RNA preps, quantitative PCR, western blots, and ELISAs
  • Strong data analysis skills including a knowledge of statistics
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including preparation of study reports, presentations and able to contribute manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
  • This position requires 90% of time in the lab.


PREFERRED
  • Primary neuronal/astrocyte culture experience
  • Application of high-content imaging to cell-based assays
  • Experience culturing immune cell lines, primary murine microglia and iPSC-derived microglia
  • Experience with multiple therapeutic modalities (small molecule, antibody, peptide, siRNA).
  • Experience in neuroscience and pharmaceutical research; Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS disease experience preferred
  • Record of innovative thinking to champion new ideas and solve problems reflected by contributions to peer reviewed publication.
