Primary Purpose
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
Performs the following functions under the guidance of an OH Crew Leader, to construct and maintain all overhead distribution and sub-transmission lines, primary and secondary URD lines, telephone and CATV systems, and routine new business gas mains and service installations: Digs and backfills holes for poles; erects, relocates cribbing and removes poles; installs guys; rigs and frames poles; installs hardware and insulators. Installs transfers or removes overhead wire and direct buried cable; splices, terminates and connects wire and cable. Checks circuits for continuity and phasing. Installs, relocates and removes distribution equipment. Installs associated gas mains, services, anodes, telephone and CATV systems. Operates light digging, backfilling, earth moving and loading equipment, boom, aerial lift and auxiliary equipment, Reel King, wire tension machine, power saw, pump, drill, winch, generator, air compressor, pneumatic/hydraulic tools, voltmeter, ammeter, splicing presses, ground megger, hot line tools and fault-finding equipment. Climbs and works from poles, aerial lifts, trees, ladders, and similar structures. Works in substations, vaults and trenches. Works on energized conductors and near pressurized gas mains. Installs and makes active residential and small commercial metering equipment. Prepares daily time reports and associated paperwork. Drives any type of distribution construction vehicle and occasionally tows various types of trailers. Drives earth moving equipment on roadways between job sites. Inspects tools periodically to insure good operating condition. Exchanges worn or defective tools. Carries tools, materials and equipment between truck and job site. Assembles materials and equipment at ground level and hoists supplies to other crew members on poles or in aerial lifts. Sets up work area protection in accordance with Company standards and OSHA regulations. Applies resuscitation and first aid. Is required to work during emergencies. Comprises a 'job family' with OH Mechanic Trainee. Works shiftwork. Note: Overtime mandatory when required by operating conditions and emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of electric distribution systems and their components.
- Satisfactory completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Test Battery.
- Ability to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration weight restriction for bucket trucks when wearing required tools.
- Demonstrated ability to write, speak, read, comprehend and communicate clearly and accurately in the English language.
- Must be willing and able to work overtime on a regular basis and must be available for callout overtime, if and when required, consistent with the Labor Agreement.
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of the training program for OH Mechanic B or equivalent job experience.
- This position is considered a "safety-sensitive" function and may be subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to meet Company driving standards; must possess a valid Level 1 authorization or appropriate Commercial Driver's License.
