What you’ll do:
The qualified candidate will be in a lead role responsible for the design and implementation of motor control for the division’s next generation of industry leading products. Primary products are related to variable frequency drives but may also include reduced voltage starting; these products leverage embedded micro-controllers and digital signal processors. The candidate will work with other team members driving new product and process development while leveraging state of the art tools. Responsibilities will center on motor control algorithm development, modeling for variable frequency drives, but will also require the ability to implement the control in DSP/embedded firmware. The candidate must possess a mind-set focused on innovation combined with motor control experience and the ability to drive all motor control related aspects of a project to a successful completion.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for establishing and documenting new product requirements through collaboration with marketing, technical personnel, and customers. You will develop motor control algorithms, including scalar control (volts-per-hertz) and sensor-less vector control algorithms for various motor types. Utilizing Matlab/Simulink software, you will create motor control models based on these algorithms. Additionally, you will leverage Hardware in the Loop and Software in the Loop tools (such as dSPACE and Opal RT) to test, optimize, and verify these models.
Your role will also involve developing embedded C/C++ firmware for products using single-chip microcontrollers or digital signal processors. You will test motor control applications at both unit and system levels to ensure proper functionality. Working closely with lab personnel, you will develop and perform tests to validate product functionality, debug and fix motor control-related defects, and establish project and product cost and time estimates. Effective coordination and communication with other disciplines, including Marketing, Industrialization, Test Engineering, Designers, and Technicians, as well as with the global development team, will be crucial for project success.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in electrical/computer engineering (with a focus on motor control) from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience developing motor control models/algorithms
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD degree in electrical/computer engineering (with an emphasis on Motor Control or equivalent) from an accredited institution
- Knowledge and experience related to the agile development process
- Knowledge/training related to the fundamentals of digital signal processing
- Experience developing motor control algorithms (volts-per-hertz and sensor-less vector) on a variety of single chip processor platforms including TI DSP’s or ARM core microcontrollers or equivalent.
- Experience and knowledge of embedded real time systems.
Position Criteria:
To succeed in this role, you should have experience in developing both functional and detailed design requirements. A solid understanding of motor control systems and experience in developing motor control algorithms, such as volts-per-hertz and sensor-less vector control for various motor types, is essential. Proficiency in using Matlab/Simulink for modeling and developing control algorithms is required. Additionally, you should have experience with Hardware in the Loop and Software in the Loop systems, such as dSpace or Opal RT. Leading the development and modeling of control algorithms, along with knowledge of state-of-the-art engineering practices, processes, and related tools, will be crucial for success in this position.
