About the Natural Hazards Pla nne r:
The Natural Hazards Planner serves as a technical advisor on meteorology. This position maintains situational awareness of potential, imminent, or occurring hazardous weather and/or natural threats and develops written and oral briefings to advise the State Emergency Response Team of potential impacts and timing. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining a daily analysis of meteorological data to evaluate hazardous weather threats to the state, while assisting in the management of the North Carolina hurricane and earthquake programs. The Natural Hazards Planner will also act as a liaison between the National Weather Service (NWS), National Hurricane Center (NHC), FEMA's Hurricane Liaison Team (HLT), and state & local emergency managers across North Carolina.
This Natural Hazards Planner will maintain planning responsibilities which support agency goals and initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and revising natural hazard and other assigned emergency response plans and key projects for NCEM. This position may serve on numerous state and federal committees related to various natural hazards that threaten North Carolina and prepare and deliver briefings on programmatic updates to all levels of management in the private sector and local, state, and federal agencies as well as elected official. Additionally, this position will also help develop outreach content to increase preparedness statewide.
During activations of the State EOC, the Natural Hazards Planner will be assigned duties within the Planning Section in support of the State Emergency Response Team.

The mission of North Carolina Emergency Management is to enhance North Carolina's resiliency through active collaboration, communication, and coordination of efficient and effective preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation of all natural and man-made hazards and threats.
About NCEM's Planning Section:
The primary mission of the Planning Section within NCEM is to provide the Division and the State Emergency Response Team (SERT) with planning support, situational awareness, interagency coordination, meteorological support, and effective radiological emergency preparedness programs. Furthermore, the Planning Section implements and manages the statewide training and exercise programs.

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs:
• Documented experience of meteorological principles to support daily and/or emergency operations.
• Documented experience in the development, maintenance and/or editing of emergency response and/or recovery plans.
• Documented experience with public speaking and/or presentations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of progressively responsible emergency management, emergency services, or other professional experience directly related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Military Experience
