Job Summary: Oberlin College and Conservatory is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Assistant Dean and Director of the Office of Disability and Access. This is a full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff (A&PS) position, reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President and Dean for Intercultural Engagement. The role is housed within the Center for Intercultural Engagement ( CIE ). The Center for Intercultural Engagement includes several key initiatives: the Multicultural Resource Commons ( MRC ), Gender and Attraction Initiatives ( GAI ), Office of Religious and Spiritual Life ( ORSL ), International Student and Scholar Services ( ISSS ), and the Office of Disability and Access ( ODA ). As ability is considered one of our core aspect of identity within CIE , the Assistant Dean and Director of Disability and Access will work to raise awareness of this identity while ensuring access and support across all aspects of student life. This includes facilitating accessibility in the classroom, residential spaces, and co-curricular programs, fostering an inclusive environment for students of all abilities. Responsibilities: The Assistant Dean and Director plays a key role in supporting the mission of the College by planning, designing, and overseeing advising, support programs, policies, and services for students with disabilities. This includes reviewing documentation, engaging in interactive discussions with students, and managing the assignment of academic, housing, and dining accommodations. In addition, the Assistant Dean and Director supervises the staff of the Office of Student Disability and Access. The role involves collaboration with various campus offices to ensure equity, access, and compliance with relevant laws. The Assistant Dean and Director provides training and resources for faculty and staff to enhance the accessibility of classroom technology and digital media. Additionally, the position works with various campus constituents to remove barriers to access across college facilities and provides consultation on new construction and renovation projects to ensure accessibility. The responsibilities of this position fall into three broad areas: Support Programs, Policies, and Services for Students with Disabilities Administrative Oversight  Facility and Program Accessibility Required qualifications: Master's degree in higher education administration or related field with 5-8 years of experience, plus demonstrated success working with individuals with disabilities in an educational setting. Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Experience providing academic accommodations through an interactive process. Experience working with people with a range of diagnoses and backgrounds. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with staff, faculty and students. Prior experience with software management. Demonstrated abilities to manage a budget Demonstrated ability to communicate, both orally and in writing; exercise effective independent professional judgment; establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students and student organizations; and relate successfully in one-on-one and group situations with persons representing diverse backgrounds and interests. Knowledge of principles, practices and theories of student learning and development, and an understanding of the cultural, social, recreational, and educational needs of students. Demonstrate strategic thinking and academic knowledge to support the development of cutting-edge programs that advance knowledge on race, ethnicity, and other social identities. Possess political acumen and demonstrated experience relying on creative problem-solving, flexibility, and conflict resolution.
