What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Nuclear and Hazardous Tec 4/5 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Tec 4 $69,500 - $110,300
You will work as a member of the Chief Operations Office Associate Laboratory Directorate of Weapons Production (COO), Process Maintenance and Decontamination Services Group (PMDS), Programmatic Maintenance Team for Weapons Production Facilities on the Programmatic Equipment Maintenance & Gloveboxes team. The team is responsible for performing maintenance on programmatic equipment and glovebox support systems to support program deliverables. You will support Decontamination and/or Maintenance activities and report to a First Line Manager for preparing, reviewing and working against approved integrated work document (IWD) specific to task and location. You will work with the organization responsible for corrective and preventative maintenance of programmatic equipment, (i.e., troubleshoot, repair and replace) as well as the decontamination, decommissioning and demolition of process equipment used at all Weapons Production Facilities.

Apply established work methods and procedures to perform maintenance with less direct supervision. Work with other teams with in the group to scope and schedule work. Follow prescribed procedures wile completing work with limited direction from management. Prepare required decontamination or maintenance documentation and maintain appropriate work history logs. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Maintenance: Advanced knowledge and experience with performing maintenance activities on various systems, equipment, and components.
Equipment Types : Advanced experience maintaining systems and equipment with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components .
Work Performance: Advanced experience performing work in accordance with detailed work instructions, procedures, drawings, layouts and other related specifications.
Work Environment : Ability to work in a glovebox with radioactive and hazardous materials.
Training: Ability to remain current in all job related training requirements.

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:
Leadership Role: Experience leadership and mentor role when working with junior team members.
Equipment/Systems : Expert experience interpreting and applying comprehensive knowledge and practical understanding of equipment and systems theory and principles.
Ability to obtain and maintain:
- Glove Box Operator (GBO) qualification
- Fissionable Material Handler (FMH) qualification
- Q clearance and HRP certification
Education and Experience Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Tec 4 : Position requires an Associate's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education and Experience Nuclear and Hazardous Materials Tec 5 : Position requires an Associate's Degree and 7 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a High School Diploma.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience leading walk downs and developing scope for maintenance activities.
- History of accurately documenting work activities.
- Experience writing and reviewing work authorizing documents.
- Responsible for determining functional problems utilizing test equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Experience using computer applications.
- Experience with working on inert gas and vacuum systems.
Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a shift schedule.
These shifts typically fall into two categories:
- Swing: normally 4:00 p.m. to 12 midnight
- Graveyard: normally 12 midnight to 8:00 a.m.
Shift Differential Pay: Nonexempt employees will receive shift differential pay when they are assigned by their manager to work a regular shift in which four or more hours are scheduled either before 8:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m.
The rules governing the payment of shift differential are subject to change, including the amount of shift differential
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 2 years.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.
426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
