What You Will Do
Process Equipment Maintenance & Decontamination Services (PMDS) provides a comprehensive and integrated maintenance program supporting plutonium process equipment for DOE Nuclear facilities. Glovebox and programmatic process equipment maintenance activities are performed by PMDS as directed by the owning/operating groups in compliance with Conduct of Engineering (CoE), Conduct of Operations (CoO), and Conduct of Maintenance (CoM) policies.

The MM1 will serve as the lead supervisor for the Programmatic Equipment Maintenance & Gloveboxes team. The selected candidate will report to the Manufacturing Manager 3 (MM3) for the team. The selected candidate will oversee the day-to-day operations of their team, provide on the floor supervision and direction, as well as develop and deliver improved, customer-focused, processes and procedures. Coaching/mentoring of the team members.

Responsibilities include Coordinating various administrative functions in support of operational program efficiency including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of team assignments. You will ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements associated with the best safety, environmental, security, and conduct of operations. As a MM1, you will conduct both routine and job-specific pre-job briefings as well as post job reviews with all involved workers and provide technical expertise for the activities performed. Perform scoping walk downs on work assignments and assist in the development of work authorizing documents per requirements. Develop tool listings, material take offs and perform room walk downs to ensure all necessary items have been identified prior to work execution.

The selected candidate will assist in the oversight and management of fact findings and incident investigations. They will ensure corrective actions are properly identified and implemented. In addition, you will ensure that safety and security are an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing a job is unsafe or could compromise security.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams of technicians and/or professional staff in a technical environment.
  • Experience in Plan of the Day (POD) and Plan of the Week (POW) entries for work activities, late adds and cancellations.
  • Experience performing and managing work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of executing work in compliance with nuclear facility requirements and the authorization basis as specified under 10 CFR 830 Nuclear Safety Management and 10 CFR 835 Occupational Radiation Protection.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Fissionable Material Handler (FMH) qualification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Glove Box Operator (GBO) qualification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain HRP certification.
  • Perform work, requiring level II PPE.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance.
Training/Certifications:
  • Respirator qualified
  • PAPR qualified
  • PIC qualified
Education/Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE O 426.2 : Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years nuclear experience.


Desired Qualifications:
  • Active DOE Q clearance.
  • Active HRP
  • Active glovebox qualification
  • Active FMH qualification
  • Experience ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of maintenance, installation, and D&D activities in PF-4.
  • Experience in project and program management, including planning, organizing, and resource management.
Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation) : Ability to speak, reading vision, sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, twisting the trunk or back, bending, kneeling, balancing, applying torque with hands or arms, use of both hands, use of both arms, carrying 10-20 pounds, lifting 30+ pounds.

Work Schedule: This position may require 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a shift schedule.

These shifts typically fall into two categories:
  • Swing: normally 4:00 p.m. to 12 midnight
  • Graveyard: normally 12 midnight to 8:00 a.m
Shift Differential Pay: This position may require 24/7 coverage and therefore may require working a shift schedule. Nonexempt employees will receive shift differential pay when they are assigned by their manager to work a regular shift in which four or more hours are scheduled either before 8:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m.

The rules governing the payment of shift differential are subject to change, including the amount of shift differential.

Work Environment: Working overtime or irregular schedule, working off-shift/rotating schedule, work near sources of ionizing radiation, work near machinery and moving parts, domestic/foreign travel, mask or respirator, safety glasses and eye protection, gloves or hand protection, hearing protection, safety shoes or protective footgear.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 2 years.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
