University Honors Counselor - Outreach, Recruitment, Development & Alumni Relations University of California Riverside Job Number: 31174947 Full/Part Time: Full Time Schedule: 8AM - 5PM Salary: $59,000 - $81,200 Position Information The University Honors Counselor is responsible for providing counseling services to a diverse caseload of approximately 250 University Honors students. Using the principles of developmental advising and a knowledge of teaching and learning theory, the incumbent promotes student development and academic success to University Honors students by guiding them in making a successful transition to university-level academics; satisfying University Honors requirements and responsibilities; developing leadership and team-building skills; participating in campus and community service; pursuing involvement in high-impact educational experiences; conducting undergraduate research; and completing a capstone project. The incumbent works with dedicated University Honors faculty and professors, who mentor students in pursuit of their capstone projects, and collaborates with academic advisors in the colleges and departments to ensure that students are making progress in pursuit of their academic goals. The position provides program management in the following areas of academic support for University Honors students: outreach and recruitment, living-learning communities, alumni relations, and development and fundraising. As such, this position will serve as the University Honors liaison to Housing and Residential Life, to the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC), and to the Honors Alumni Board. The position will coordinate event/activity management/participation for the aforementioned programs and the University Honors Cording Ceremony. The applicant most suited to this position will enjoy doing outreach initiating and developing connections with students, on/off campus departments, alumni, staff, faculty, and parents; talking to people; being very comfortable making presentations and tabling; having a heart to serve a diverse group of students in the Inland Empire; and being truly passionate about and believing in student development/counseling. Please be advised that candidates may be required to provide a presentation as part of the interview process. The budgeted hourly/salary range for this position is $59,000 - $81,200. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Must successfully complete a background check through the University's background check agency prior to your start date, and a fingerprint check through the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations. Education Education Requirements Degree Requirement Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Master's degree in related area. Preferred Experience Experience Requirement Experience in effectively analyzing and interpreting policies, procedures, and guidelines and in evaluating complex concepts and applying them appropriately. Required Experience with student academic program administration for varying class levels (freshman through senior). Required 4 - 7 years of related experience. Knowledge of academic curricula. Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting. Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution. Skill in working independently, setting priorities, and completing assignments with minimal direction. Problem solving and organizational skills. Skills in judgment and decision-making. Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Familiarity with alumni relations, development, and fundraising. Multicultural competencies, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. Interpersonal skills. Skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail. Knowledge of current research and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific, student-population specific). Experienced knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural/linguistic issues in applying academic support to students. Knowledge of program development, data gathering, assessment, and evaluation skills. Familiarity with outreach/recruitment and admissions. Additional Information Knowledge in designing and implementing learning and pedagogical models. May require knowledge of NCAA policies, rules, and regulations.
